They’re Back

If you were born in 1980, Green Day’s major-label debut, Dookie, was probably among your favorite albums when it was released in 1994. Green Day’s bratty three-minute anthems were tailor-made for 14-year-olds to champion. A decade later, Green Day, surprisingly, still matters as it makes music for all ages.

This is something that I read from a review about the new green day album.  I never bought he past two original releases from these guys, I had been pretty disappointed with what they had been doing, but loved them as a band regaurdless because of what they mean to me.  If music changes lives, or can be an anthem for people and points in their own lives, then this band would be mine.

My parents listened to country for the most part.  My brother had just started to get into the christian music scene; this mind you was long before the days of switchfoot or other promising cross-overs.  I was getting ready for eigth grade that summer.  I had never had a girlfriend, never been anything close to popular, been bad at sports, and chunky to say the least; not to mention living all of my life in the shadow of my older brother who somehow was all the things that I was not.  I couldn’t drive, had no job, and very little money.  Somewhere along the line someone would lend me a copy of a cd that fell into niether country or christian rock catagory.  I new it pissed everyone of to hear me playing it loud.  The problem was, I really loved the music.  I knew every word to every song on the Dookie album before I even had the chance to buy my owm copy.  It was music, but at the same time so much more…most of all was the way that it made me feel to hear words that seemed to match my thoughts over distorted powerchords.  If there was anything in those “dark ages” so many of us know as adolesence that brought me joy or gave me the strength to face another day of life, it came in a case with green day plastered on the front….its sounds melodramatic I know, but it gave me something to live for.

Thanks to Green Day; the band that helped me live

So here it is,  I would refer the American Idiot cd to anyone, and its a must have for some one who claims to be a fan

From ‘Wake me when September Ends’  Green Day

Summer has come and passed

The innocent can never last

Wake me when september ends

Like my father has come to pass

Seven years has gone so fast

Here comes the rain again

Falling from the stars

Drenched in the pain again

Becoming who we are

As my memeory rests

I never forgoet what I lost

Wake me up when september ends

Ring out the bellls again

Like we did when spring began

he he I know what you mean. I was born in 81, Everytime I hear one of those early GreenDay songs it takes me right back.

Green Day is a great band. I never owned a copy of the Dookie CD, but my cousin did and we listened to it all the time. I have the Nimrod CD, which I love, and I listen to it all the time (I love how it makes me psyched up). —Something relevant…..I love Green Day so much that I nominated “Good Riddance” for the senior song in high school…and it won! Our senior song was good riddance!!

Good Riddance was an appropriate song for my class. I am not really sure what the song is “really” about, but it fit ok…..if you have any ideas leave me a message….
