Runnin’ runnin’ runnin’
So I started running again.
Well, jogging is more like it. I am going at a pace of 12 minutes per mile at the moment so definitely not really ‘running’. If I were being chased by monsters I’d have been eaten by now. 😉 Of course this 12 minutes also includes my walk time so I imagine when I’m actually running it’s a tad faster.
I am slowly learning that I am not ever going to be a fast runner or a sprinter. I am more of a distance kind of girl; a slow and steady wins the race type of person. I am okay with that but trying to keep up with my 8 minute mile boyfriend can be a bit discouraging for me. Matt does slow down and run with me for good portions of our runs but I always feel bad because I want HIM to get the best workout he can and I definitely want him to do well in the 5K we both signed up for on June 5th. I know that in time I will be able to run faster but I want to run fast NOW. I am so impatient.
Anyway, I have been using the Nike+ shoes and sensors for this month when I started running. It’s pretty neat to see my runs plotted out! I’ve been tinkering with it some more today and familiarizing myself with the website and seeing everything it has to offer. I thought I’d periodically post some screen shots here to motivate myself a little bit more. The run posted below is my 4th.
I need to see if there is a way to actually map my runs on the streets that I run on around here. I’m just running up my road and then turning onto a side street so there are wee hills and inclines that challenge me. Overall I am very proud of my progress so far and I can see that using my elliptical more this year has really helped me out on my cardio. I need to keep using it on my non-run days as my workouts on the elliptical are around 45 minutes or so and definitely get the job done. I am not sure how much I will use it this month, I set myself a lofty goal for number of runs in the month of May and I don’t want to fall behind!
I am open to any music suggestions also. What really gets you going? I love to finish up my runs listening to Tom Petty’s Won’t Back Down and Eminem’s Lose Yourself. I like both lyrics and beats to things, so really I am open to anything. Remixes are also welcome.
So yeah, there you have it. Officially signed up for a 5K on June 5th and I am very confident I can finish it within the 45 minute time window. I’m not so sure about getting up and running early in the morning since Matt and I both prefer to run in the evenings… I guess I should start practicing getting up early and running before work. But that sounds too much like torture.

Smart phones have apps that allow you to map your runs via gps that are pretty cool. I like MyTracks, it is made by Google (free) for Android but my boss uses his iPhone to do the same thing; not sure of the name of the Apple app, though.

I’m so proud of you for kickstarting this! Now tell me about these shoes/this program… It looks very interesting! I’m just like you. I will never be fast. I went for a jog/walk on Sunday for abour 4 miles and probably did it around the same time you did. I figure as long as we’re doing something it’s better than nothing!

S uses an app in his iphone.. i will find out the name and tell you.. It tracks all kind of fun stuff for him. Yay for running and wicked cool chart from the shoes 🙂

RYN: My period started yesterday hence my chocolate/peanut butter cravings! 😉 I actually don’t even eat or crave chocolate much other than period time. The OT, I’ve thought about it… But I know what J will say. See, he actually works about 2.5 hours of OT a week right now because he doesn’t take a full 1 hour lunch. So he’ll say well my OT is going to the house fund, so mine will haveto as well. The laptop is literally just a want. I want a better one since mine is 5 years old. 😉 I don’t need it. I do however need a house. 😉

RYN: Makeup, That’s kind of what I’m looking for. I really only wear makeup when I wear my contacts because I just feel like you can see the circles under my eyes. 😛 What under eye concealer do you use? Any particular brand? I’m really looking for a concealer for that I guess. Because really I only wear some light eyeshadow and eye liner with it.

I d/led the nike+ app It didnt do the GPS Which was a bummer Cause i wanted to see it. I also used the dailymile.com So that tracked my route Pretty cool Today i ran/walked ran when i could Mostly walked LOL But 3.17 miles took me 46 mins. My fastest since i started walking. a week ago LOL.
