Schlep, Schlep, Schlep
I had my first gig in San Antonio last night at a local club – small but mostly appreciative crowd. The owner booked us again for next Sunday, which is great, but getting home at 2AM and then teaching the next morning is going to be challenging. After all, I’m not in college anymore. Loading my portable axe (that’s lingo for one’s instrument) into the evil bourgeois SUV is a pain in the keester, and it turns out the club actually had a good piano. However, I decided to schlep my axe into the club and play it, since I had brought it and didn’t want to face the wall while playing. The band I’m playing with is good, but last night we played with a trumpet player, who didn’t mesh with the rhythm section. He wouldn’t play the melody much of the time and wouldn’t trade fours. Plus, he brought some charts to read, but insisted that they be played with sequenced tracks, which rendered the bass player and I a bit redundant. In fact, we both finally told the dude where he could stick his mixing board (pause for vivid visualization).
Finally, I would like to point out the following bit of important information: UT 28, OU 10
boy and I should have know that UT was Texas but for some reason I couldn’t figure out how OU was playing Utah. But also KSU 31 OSU 27.

Yeah, that’s not much sleep. But it sounds worth it. 🙂

I hope you don’t have to play with that trumpet player again on Sunday. And I hope you’re not too tired Monday. 😉

RYN: I know that, and I’m seeing some of that already. I feel like I am where I’m supposed to be, but I think that there will always be that part of me that thinks “what if…” I don’t regret not going. Sometimes I just wonder what I would be doing now had things gone differently.
