Concerts and Collisions

Region Orchestra has come and gone – like a tornado. The students selected for the ensemble practice Friday night and all day Saturday and then play a concert Saturday evening. I’m the percussion organizer, which is rather humorous, given I don’t play percussion. I just make sure the equipment is in the correct rehearsal space at the correct rehearsal time, the percussionists know what they are playing, and what sticks and mallets to bring. The concert was not all that great. The Beethoven Egmont Overture was a quality performance, Selections from “Fiddler on the Roof” was really well done, but the Copland “Buckaroo Holiday” was NOT good. There were far too many bad entrances from exhausted wind players, and I’ll just leave it there. To make matters worse, I was in an accident on the way home.  It was a pile-up resembling the checkout line at Walmart two days before Christmas.  I’m ok, as is my vehicle, but others not so much.  I hit the car in front of me, so it is automatically my fault, but it was unavoidable.  One nice thing is we both have the same insurance company, so there won’t be any dickering with another firm about payment. Actually, the damage to his car is probably not going to exceed his deductable. I feel lucky about this instance.

Ah. Seems like about as drama-free as a car accident can be. Glad you’re okay!

ryn: Thanks! Yeah, my teachers are usually pretty good about presenting them as conventions rather than absolute rules too, and I’m really glad.
