I find it curious that I didn’t mention my anniversary in my last entry, since it was on the same date. Foreboding? Hopefully not. We are moving to San Antonio Friday, but do not have a new house as of yet. We’ve narrowed it down to three and a nice apartment as a backup. J and I are getting along better than we have in ages, in spite of the move stress. We will both miss our current house, with its custom landscaping and great tile, but there is a great new house somewhere just our type – with a gas stove!!! I freaking HATE electric stoves; they can’t cook for shit. We are going to rent for a year, while deciding in which part of the city to buy a house. One thing I must say is traffic in SA is horrendous. I’m not looking forward to that. However, I am looking forward to culture, Whole Foods Market, and Central Market, which is the American version of the Harrods food section.
In 1986, a gorgeous German girl lived with my family and we became quite close. I Traveled to Germany to see her twice before we lost touch. A few days ago, after almost eighteen lost years, I “Googled” her and discovered her name and photo on a business website. I joined the site and asked that she add me as a contact, which she did. I hope that is the first step in restarting our friendship.
Attention Iran: study your history. Pissing off Israel is not wise. They have been kicking ass since 1100 BC. Read the Old Testament, (but skip Leviticus – it is as boring as whale shit.)
I do not understand the obsession the Bush Administration has with restoring the Six Party Talks with North Korea. The Russians and Chinese are playing the US like fools. Is it not time to be practical and begin direct dialogue and cut the Russians and Chinese out of the picture? Put our diplomats across from the North Koreans and inform them that we are putting a missile defense system in Japan plus, increasing our naval presence in the area. That will also get the attention of the Chinese, who would not want an increased US presence in the region, and perhaps they would finally pressure the NK’s to curtail their nuclear program. If not, then our Japanese based missile defense system could shoot down the Commie rockets, assuming they don’t continually blow up on the launch pad.
On the Statue of Liberty the words “Give me your poor” are inscribed. However, in order for one to legally immigrate to the US, one apparently must own property or a business. No wonder so many immigrate illegally. Many problems abound with our immigration system, and while we must control our borders, we must also not forget the spirit of Ellis Island. My own ancestors were impoverished Irish farmers who came to America with nothing but a desire for better opportunity. Today they would be denied a visa. Lovely.
Weird … I think the note I tried to leave got messed up … anyway … electric stoves are indeed no good. I agree with your last three paragraphs too, although thinking about the state of the country and the world exhausts me more than my messy house.

I hate electric stoves too. Good luck finding a new place. San Antonio sounds like a fun city!

I’m so glad that you and J are getting along….I hope it continues along that vein.

I still find it ironic that France gave us the statue of liberty with the saying. I wonder if we told them what to write. And if we tried to own property in other countries you can’t do it. Anyway, not in Mexico. But I do agree with the statement about Israel. Not sure that with North Korea everybody may not be biting off more than we can chew. Not sure they are playing with a full deck.

and a not full deck can be way to trigger happy. I guess I figure that maybe we should also concentrate on a whole lot more of the problems we have in our country before we take on any more.
