Kitchen Demolition Shots

Went to the house after work yesterday to meet with the tree guy.  When I walked into the house I wanted to seriously cry though…omg it looks like a facking war zone.I had to remind myself (repeatedly) you need to demolish before rebuilding.  $1400.00 to remove 4 large trees and 2 small ones, also to cut back the branches from the tree next door hanging in my yard and to seriously cut back the forsynthia bush, as well as scale down to ground level the 2 stumps left behind from the bank’s removal of the trees laying on my roof.  Not bad at all.  Other quote was $1600.00.  Trust this guy way more, he was early, nice, friendly and he has contracts with the surrounding cities.  He comes highly recommended on Kudzu.com, and Chris has used him before to remove trees.  Scheduled that to be done May 26th, the day before I move in officially.  Please pray it doesn’t rain.

Speaking of?  So last Saturday was the first day I really spent here at my new home.  Much to my delight a parade of little leaguers with fire engines leading the pack came down my street.  I stood in the window and watched as they waved and marched by.

Last night I walked out with the tree guy ready to lock up and looked up?  A huge whole rainbow was sitting right there in the sky.

I take BOTH of these signs as proof positive I am meant to be where I am.  I must remember this as I go through the renovations and get aggravated and discouraged and nervous about my diminishing cash reserves.

Started my before and after pictures on Facebook.  But am going to put them here too.  So here we go.

Kitchen Demolition

Goodbye old counters…you served your purpose for someone, just not me.  It pains me greatly that an owner at one time removed all the original woodwork surrounding the 2 windows which will be over the sink/counters.  I assume they did to add a second window there?  I don’t know for sure.  Whomever did used plastic type shit to redo it so we had to rip it off.  So the window to the left has the original woodwork and now my 2 windows there won’t match…ah well, it will be uniquely mine that way.  I am so psyched to keep the upper stick built cabinets in tact.  I love them!  What I love more is that the original owner/builder of my house built these with his own 2 hands in 1927.   I would have loved to have been able to keep the lower cabinets too, for that reason.  But they just weren’t salvagable, when we removed them the underlayers were damaged by water and falling apart.  We are going to try to keep the one area with the 3 drawers and use that in the pantry.  We shall see.  I hope so.  Going to go really look at that one tonight after work because I called a Haul Away company to come in tomorrow and haul all this stuff away so I can move and get to work.

I will strip the layers of paint off, replane so they close better, add new hardware and they will be lovely!

Notice the circle?  That’s a hole that leads to my chimney I am told.  At one time there was one of those old cast iron stoves with the large pipes going into this hole.  Wish that was still here.  Those sucker are worth a LOT of money.  We found this while removing the first layer of painted wallpaper last weekend.  When my brother removed the particle board circle I lept backwards and screamed, "PUT IT BACK ON NOW!!!"  My nephew and brother howled with laughter and asked "Why?"  I said, "For christ sakes squirrels or birds could be in my chimney for all I know and I do not want a rabid or pissed off squirrel leaping out at my face."  Yeah, drama….

Now we get to my favorite atrocity in the house.
The Green Monster Room.
I took pictures to document the awesome atrociousness of it all.  This will be my master bedroom.  Without further ado, I bring you, RED SOX NATION.

Welcome to Boston’s Green Monster, fans.  How many people can say they have a replica of this in their homes?  Not many, for good reason.  I know the boy who lived in this room was named "Joey".  Sorry Joey, but this is being taken down, down I say!!!

Look, I have my own stadium of cheering fans to greet me in the mornings and before I go to sleep.  Someone took a picture from the internet and printed it on 8×11 paper and literally glued copies all around the room.  Hip, Hip, Horray.  *rolls eyes*

And they did the same with Red Sox players and of course, Wally, the team mascott.  Well?  Wally and whomever the other player pictured is?  You have to get a move on babes, you are not welcome in my bedroom any longer.  Your time is up, way up!

Once there stood a horrible homemade closet, now it rests in pieces.

Now we come to my semi-demolished
Bathroom.

Check out my snazzy new plumbing.  At least the terlit is still there – although that is going to be replaced too.  Chris bought me a new one…I was perfectly fine with the old one, however, he is creeped out at the thought of old toilets.  *rolls eyes*  Whatever.  The vanity is gone and the radiator is gone.

I am distraught to see how much damage there is to the floor where the radiator was.  *cringes* Lots of water damage.  The gaping hole looking into the basement is seriously creeping me out too.  It’s nasty and filthy behind where the old vanity was too.  Blech!!!!
