The Postcard Prank?

 Dear Diary;

Have I not written about this yet? I could have sworn I did.

After camp ended and everyone went their separate ways, we vowed we’d keep in touch.. yadda yadda… well- it hasn’t happened, just as I suspected. I really haven’t heard much from anyone except on Facebook. I decided I was going to do something funny to remind people of camp- specifically targeting my possible future roommate, Liz, and also Dodie and Mandy because they all work at the outdoor center.

I created postcards with the help of my computer, Google images and blank postcards from Avery. On each of them, I write a little message about my travels and how I’m sorry I missed them during the summer – and I get mom to sign them all "Love Carol".

Which isn’t funny at all- unless you know the joke behind Carol. I don’t remember if I wrote about that or not, but the basic story goes like this..

One fine day at camp back in July, the phone rang and Liz, being close to the phone while working in the kitchen, answered. It’s important to note that the kitchen phone is terrible and if the oven is on or there are people in the dining hall it’s terribly hard to hear anything. Anyway, it was Kate on the phone and she was looking for Dodie, but since she wasn’t around, Kate left a message with Liz. When I came in to the dining hall immediately after she got off the phone, Liz looked at me and said "Kate called, Carol is coming. If you see Dodie before I do, can you tell her that?" I looked at her funny for a second and said .."Who’s Carol?" to which Liz replied.. "Uh… crap. I don’t know! I thought you’d know".  After I left the dining hall, I ran into Dodie and told her the message that Liz had just told me and she looked at me funny and said …"…Who’s Carol?", to which I replied "That’s what I said!".

It left everyone wondering for a while who Carol was and why she was coming to camp on that day. Dodie called Kate back but had to leave a message because she wasn’t available, and then later on Kate called back and left ANOTHER message that said …"..Who’s Carol?".

Needless to say, Carol didn’t exist. The original message, which was misheard was "Peter is coming". How Liz got Carol from Peter, we’ll never know- but it became a running joke of the summer. Carol was a part of many things. She ended up in pranks, she signed birthday cards and she got blamed for almost anything that went wrong.

So now, I’m sending postcards from Carol to Liz, Dodie and Mandy – and it’s hilarious.

Of course, if they read the postmark it will probably give away who sent them since I’m the only one from Perth… but I still think it’s hilarious.

I mail them every Tuesday.
