NJM 2 – Cat pee and a teddy bear.
Dear Diary;
I have a problem. His name is Boots. He’s decided that he no longer wants to urinate in his litter box and has instead decided to pee all over the basement floor. The very same basement floor that my dad painted just weeks ago because the cat peed on the floor and he was bothered by all the stains. Gross, but true. Anyway- Boots has started peeing again. He used to go under the stairs- but we put a door on so he couldn’t get under there. I thought it had solved the issue because he hasn’t done it since we put the door on. Today however, I went downstairs and could immediately tell he’d peed somewhere because I could smell it. Sure enough, he’d gone under the coat rack in the corner and done his thing. I cleaned it up and tried to use some strong smelling cleaning supplies to discourage him from going back- but I have a feeling this isn’t going to end.
I think I’ll take him to the vet and get him checked out- I hope he doesn’t have a urinary tract infection or something. I love my good boy but if he doesn’t stop peeing by the time dad comes home from hunting.. well.. he’ll be the one dad hunts. (My dad doesn’t like cats. He makes me SO angry when he talks about shooting him or getting rid of him. I told him if he ever hurt my cat I would turn the gun on him next).
moving on..
I have this old teddy bear (I could have sworn I wrote about this once before but I can’t seem to find it anywhere) that I’ve been trying to locate online but haven’t had any luck doing. I’ve checked the tags on the bear and there isn’t really anything that could tell me what it is other than it’s from Deluxe Playthings. I tried looking that up and got a lot of nothing. The bear was my FAVOURITE stuffed animal when I was little and it had a box inside with wires and a speaker and you could press it’s hand and say something and the bear would repeat what you said. Somewhere along the line it stopped working and my dad took it apart and tried to fix it- he failed of course and so it never said another word. It’s a brown bear with a plastic red heart on it’s chest that lit up when it was recording. I can’t find another bear like it anywhere and I’ve been looking for years! I’ll take a picture of it later if I remember.
UTI is possible. if he’s peeing everywhere else that is. Poor cat. I hope y’all figure it out! 🙂 Hmm… i can’t remember that bear’s name…

we have some stuff to use for cleaning up pee; I think it’s made by “OUT!” and it breaks down the proteins in urine. It smells somewhat like baby powder but it discourages repeat urination in an area. And, it’s cheap! I think walmart carries it even

Maybe you could put a litter box in the basement. Do you think Boots would use it or simply ignore it? So sorry for you having to clean it up and for poor lil’ kitty if a UTI is what’s going on.

yes my parents cat has diabetes and a UTI and she pees everywhere unfortunately. My parents just regularly put her in the cat box so that she goes there instead of making a mistake and tehre are wee wee pads in her favorite places just incase.

RYN: Dang it, I was afraid of that. Poor kitty. Thanks re: the color combo. I wonder what it will look like at home tonight on my laptop. I was so surprised to see that icky color combo this morning. It looked great on my laptop. Ha!

Yes, yes, take Boots to the vet. Cats usually avoid boxes if they are sick, e.g. they associate the box w/pain.

There’s a cleaning solution that uses peroxide and baking soda (I think…) that my parents swear by. It’s supposed to get EVERY smell out so the animals don’t keep going to that same place. If I can find it, I’ll pass it along. And post a picture with all the details you can figure out! I probably won’t have anymore luck than you, but I’m usually the one to find things for my family that they can’t find 🙂
