Interview

Dear Diary;

I got a call tonight about that job I applied for at the group home. Did I mention all this? I’m sure I did. I did some thinking and decided that applying for this job that my aunt got was a good idea for a few reasons- number one of the list was the money that I so desperately need, but that was closely followed by the fact that the location is almost half-way between where I am now and where I want to move to. That means when I save up some money, I can move and not have to drive much farther than I already would be.  My aunt also told me all about the place after she started working a few days and what she has said so far is all good, so I’m really hoping it won’t be too bad a job at all.

Anyway, she called me tonight and we set up and interview for Thursday at 4pm.

I haven’t actually had an interview in quite a while, so I’d love it if you guys could throw out some interview questions that I can answer as practice.

Remember they always ask.. “why YOU ?” but they also ask “what is your greatest weakness” make sure you turn that one into a positive… like… ” I’m a neat freak” I just can’t relax until everything is organized etc. :]

Tell me about a time you were had to take care of someone having a physical issue, like a serious allergic reaction, or a sport injury. What happened, what did you do, and what did you do wrong?

Good luck with the interview!!! Here are some thoughts: Tell me three things about you. Have you had experience with one resident sneaking out while another is using alcohol on the premises and how did you handle it? What makes you qualified for this job? Where do you see yourself in five years? What do you bring to this job that someone else doesn’t? Why did you leave your lastjob? Name your greatest strength and greatest weakness. Do you have problems following directions or taking direction from authority figures?

I used to work in a group home. Most of the question they’ll ask will be scenario based. Quite possibly the questions will revolve around your training in CPR & 1st Aid, and CPI(non-violent crisis intervention). So review those skill and know how to apply them. Other scenarios could include med.administration errors and how you would handle them… con’t

…dealing with client with difficult behaviors(non-compliant, non-verbal, aggressive, etc) and how you would prevent or deal with them. You’ll probably be working in a team environment, so they could ask about how you’d deal with unethical or difficult co-workers. Another big one is how you would handle client abuse if you witnessed it. Con’t…

…don’t forget you’re interviewing them as well. So ask questions. May I suggest: Most difficult problems this job will encounter? Most significant decision this position would make without asking approval? What skills needed to excel in job? Past employees who didn’t meet expectations and what they did wrong? How will my performance be measured and how often? Good luck on your interview.
