This morning’s thoughts, tonight’s thoughts
Part of me lives there already
and knows how it feels
invisible familiarity
familiar invisibility
I knew something immediately
so much learning to be found
gentle thunder
looming lightly
Riding brooms for horses
once told no I acquiesced
in Mrs. Pierce’s* raised eyebrows
lay the seeds of my submission
I would have battled raging fires
but instead sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
in Mandarin as taught
and promptly forgotten
Please let me relax in your rainbow
the center of it
it’s where my treasure lies
my sanctuary
*Mrs. Pierce was my second grade teacher. I adored her.
~~~~~~~~~~
There are names no one knows
unconnected and unspoken
outside of a society of two
There are other avenues
and reality so far beyond
the limits of romantic imagination
What I know
even as my heart rushes
and yes my whole self reaches
for the sun and air of my spirit
If my need comes slowly
it is for me to learn patience
oh lessons and so much to remember
gently will I brush against a life
A hundred thousand
more than my young land can give
I would see the stars with my soul
in silence listen to the poetry
of the night wind
So grand
but something simple is waiting
it is that will catch my breath in wonder
The secret heaven in a touch
just that
light as gossamer
I have cried for that
My Second Grade teacher looked like Godzilla and had fish breath. YOurs sounds much nicer. 🙂 Shalom,
my 2d grade teacher was the devil herself.. I hated second grade and made up any sickness to not go to school that year.
“invisible familiarity/familiar invisibility” – i love the flipflop. i used to know what it was officially known as, but flipflop works. *nods* (i wonder what my English teacher would say? or if she would just raise her brows like your gr2 teacher?) Thanks for the Quack and the Wheee.. – it’s nice to know I have the good opinion of someone I respect. *throws a rubber duckie at ya* hugs,
Good morning poet. Once again you have me captivated with your poetry. It must be the Celtic ancestral gene that gives you such lovely lyricism. Well, you’re almost there flying on a magic carpet to the lands of your Holy Grail. My best wishes go with you. Smiles & Hugs
Reads like a lyrical lioness heart song : ) You are in a lovely way and no wonder! Almost time to fly! Big Hugs and Smiles (((((((Me Explorer)))))))
RYN: Yes, it went from being funny to being kind of scary when we all saw she was truly frightened of it. She seemed okay, though. 🙂
RYN; I always liked Janet; she was my favorite. Jack was a complete dolt, and Chrissy was, well, sweet, harmless, and inconsequetial (and quite replaceable as well.). I guess maybe I don’t got it so bad after all. 🙂
I love the second poem. As I read I felt as if my own soul were taken upon a cloud and transported to a place where words transform into reality
