Preparations

Impaired and yet carried
perhaps I’ll leave a trail of flowers
in my wake
for I am impractical and yet
there is majesty and beauty in my eyes
and time to smell the sea air
even from this side of the East River

Wm. Bowne and Co.
painted on the brick front of a building
stationers
perhaps I will invest in cards
to send wishes all over the world
or print broadsides
proclaiming my gratitude for a certain vision

My wide eyes stare over a distance
I always thought beyond my reach but
someone told me oceans can be crossed
any ocean
even the vast expanse of my inexperience
and what will I find
the sameness among the differences

Some part of my mottled patchwork soul
lying in the deep green and the soil there
how the mountains look across the way
what is different in the frenetic activity
of other cities
which birds call which songs
names of new towns and a fiddle’s language

The bridge here
in its noble hard won heights
has always told me I must go
as have the fairy lights that danced
on the river water through those childhood afternoons
seated atop the low bookshelves
dreaming of what lay beyond

*smiles* Beautiful. hehe I don’t wanna go to work *pouts*

Beautiful, M.E. I love all of it but this particular line I picked out to include in a note because a surprising turn of phrase always delights me, and you do it so well! — “any ocean, even the vast expanse of my inexperience.”
