Let it snow

As though I have any choice in the matter. It started yesterday morning and has been coming ever since. It took me two hours to get home yesterday. It wouldn’t have taken that long but for the fact that for an hour I waited for a bus, so not wanting to go underground. The subway system has issues with snow too, and I had visions of being stuck in a tunnel somewhere for hours. Anyway, I finally surrendered and walked the blocks to the train, waited for a couple to go by until I could squeeze in, and made my way homeward. This fancy shmancy city, which is doing its Republican damnedest to make folks like us get out of it, doesn’t like snow. I hope we return to our fine Democratic tradition soon; I feel snowed under with Republicans for mayor, governor, and president. Really, it’s all just a bit too much.

In this white night

Early blizzard
you’ve caught us unprepared
brought us to a cold standstill
altering plans
reshaping some hours

So early
deep winter running ahead of itself
telling me again
what life would have me do
reflect and retreat from the world’s noise

One small rose was left outside
of all that bloomed when I
sad and torn
returned those few short months ago
to this place that is called my home
from the presence of my home’s embodiment

Just yesterday I saw it
so fragile yet so strong
quivering in the wind’s blasts and bluster
so today its soft ecru petals must lie
in the embrace of the relentless snow

Do not disturb the candle’s humble flame
enough to illuminate prayer
to serve as a reflection of life
focus through which the heavens
open to the quiet seeker

No sweeping clarion call here
a soul in an unseen monastic cell
scribe hearing in a pulse
the rhythm of eternity
messages in boundless abundant mercy

Tread in moccasin caressed softness
in passing revere the world you find
there is more
but it will await its appointed moment
for revelation

Go Dean!!!!!

I want snow here!! My mom is expecting over a foot (Massachusetts). It’s just raining here. 🙁

Sounds like you’re getting much more snow than I am but still there is a blanket of white that makes it easy to share in the rhythm of your whitters. RYN: I appreciate any input from those who help me maintain a proper sense of perspective. *S* TY

Good morning sweet poet. The soul speaks so eloquently here. I long for snow, to be snowed in and cozy. That sometimes happens, the village can be cut off with a timeless hush. Not so nice when one has to commute in a city. Warm winter hug

We didn’t get the snow they predicted. yay!

your whitter here reminds me of a mid-winter ceremony I once knew… I might go look around for it so I can share it with you. I hope you remember to enjoy the snow; we got our first dump late (last Saturday, instead of Hallowe’en night like we used to) and Michelle and I ran out at our first opportunity and made snow angels. hugs,

You seem to be unfailingly upbeat and cheery. I need to delve more into your older entries.

“Snow” is a four letter word. Bleh. Lovely whitter.

“…telling me again what life would have me do…” If only it were that easy! It’s a process of discovery and discernment, yes? Ah, it’s snow time!

Snow is fine if you have nowhere to go. (I had my fill of snow living in Cleveland for 13 years. One winter 101 inches fell!) I foresee a white whitter weekend for you! :-)You may want to plan a little holiday somewhere else when the Republican National Convention comes to town, eh?

bwah, it has snowed here since thrusday… I am not completely against it anylonger, with you praising it and such… besides the weather always gets a little -warmer- after a fresh snowfall, after all ^_^

Re all the Republicans – “Really, it’s all just a bit too much.” – this made me laugh! I like snow but only when it stays off the roadways 🙂 Hugs,

Yuck to the two hour trudge. Snow is lovely but sure does cramp a city’s style of busy-ness. Hope you stay snug and don’t have too much bother. Certainly didn’t affect your whittering : ) Very nice. Warm Hugs

I like everything about snow..except shovelling it. lol. we get maybe 1 dump of the white stuff a year. it’s a novelty.

I feel snowed under with Republicans for mayor, governor, and president. Really, it’s all just a bit too much. Ain’t that the truth! Arnold and Dubya are too much for me to handle these days!

Wow, I love this poem. We’re done with the snow here, thankfully.

RYN: Hehehe I could always pack up the bush & send it to ya 😛

I’ve always liked snow. Of course, it may be because we never have snow (no, ice and sleet do not count for me)… 😉 *hugs*

oh! i like this whitter. the rose…the candle…so me 🙂 much love,
