Grumpy/On the way to sleep
Or how my mind works sometimes. Or something. I have ridiculously long days coming up because of a ridiculously early deadline, so I will be leaving work late even when I get in early. It’s temporary but a bit startling just now. I am just beginning to feel as though I am living on New York time; and now I just need about two to three more hours a day please.
After work on Tuesday
Anonymous under the bill of my cap
I prefer they see where I’ve been
not who I am
the young woman with sleek ponytail
graced with a bead of rain from my passing umbrella
now leaves the bus so many stops later
I do not want to smell someone else’s food
why does your bag need to touch me
you are thin and I am cautiously bound
leaning toward the window
away from you
yes you are stylish and I have noticed
Dark comes sooner
then again I left the office late
do I really need to contemplate
the purchase of a parka
so far from where I belong
it will be a cold winter
~~~~~~~~~~
Smatterings of conscious passages
How smoothly humor flows there
like the water in certain streams
in passing serpentine rivers
An abode
place for abiding
a receptacle for biding quietly
Words filtered through tension
the music of ease stalled
play me again the tune of you
Time be our friend
go-between and bearer of two souls
give us generously of your hidden horde
We need
we cry
we love
False bravado and rushing nothingness
because we are better together
the silences reflect the miles
Not mentioned there
is it too much information
it is a wonder of risk
Is someone waiting there or here
for this to blow over
as if it is some foolish whim of hearts
Be busy for a time
I press into impossible deadlines
to forget the gleam in your eyes
Returning in this too quiet time
how I couldn’t stop staring
your face in the rear view mirror
Late and hungry
how I wish I could direct the stars
to write your name in the night sky
Yo put words together so beautifully – I hope you pursue publishing them!
Wishing you those extra hours. Interesting riding the bus with you. And for the second poem… Wow! I like it. Another favorite : ) Hugs
“living on New York time”… I know you meant you are still adjusting your body time clock to E.S.T. but I had to laugh because in my mind New York is a 24 hour time… no wonder you are so tired with your long hours at work… you are on 24 hour New York Time! Hugs,
Adjusting to time change is never easy for me; I sometimes take weeks to do so, even if the time change is only a few hours. Having an unusual work schedule on top of it can’t help. Here’s hoping you return to “normal” (more or less, anyway.) soon.
Oh, haven’t we all had those days. When even a well meant touch is sandpaper to our moods. #2 – Again, I question my interpretation of your writings but believe I know where you are here. You know where I am should you need a friendly soul.
Where do you belong?
Oh no…you just reminded me of winter! How long does it take you to write the average whitter?
I have to reread these. Getting the kids off to school for Day One is being a bit crazy. With a smile…
