Bringing it home

Oh, except for the introductory bit involving kilts and the British Consulate General to New York, Sir Thomas Somebodyorother, and a pin that took three minutes to get on the poor guy’s lapel (nonsense we had to endure because the guys in kilts cosponsored the event), the evening was amazing. They sang not one song in English; all were in Gaelic, mostly Scottish Gaelic, one (Nil si i gra) which is a favorite of mine is Irish Gaelic; and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the music! See, they are brilliant musicians, and they did about equal parts sung stuff (Karen Matheson is incredible, what a gorgeous voice!) and instrumental stuff. Oh, it was brilliant!

The night started a bit unhappily introspective on the subway ride up; it was utterly magical while Capercaillie were playing; and I left feeling very honored and grateful to have heard them, and glad to take myself off toward home as to do anything else would risk bull-in-a-china-shop behavior (I am an ungainly awkward sort of woman, and it is best if I just go off into the night, which I did). I don’t know if I’ll post the whitterings of the night. I tell you, some weird stuff can come to haunt a person riding by herself (in a crowd) on a subway.

Anyway, I am extremely glad that I treated myself to this night. It is a jewel that I will treasure in memory for as long as I am allowed to remember things. Good night.

What a evening, Cathy!! Sounds fabulous. I know the feeling of awkwardness but it has become over the years a form of dignified grace. Love and hugs,

*huggles* good to read (hope the unhappy introstuff left for good)

I once had an interesting 3 AM ride in the subway, it involved Sammy, a young musician, and a monster of an upright bass… Your evening sounds fantastic, the kind that when over you feel as though you’d been gifted with manic perception, and then it’s over…;(

Sounds like such a magic night…don’t you love the feelings you can get from music? Wish I’d been there; that sort of thing is a long way from my part of Texas… But hey, Bill Cosby is doing a comedy show in Amarillo…grin. Hugs

Seems like quite a fine date you had. Envy you hearing the music. Glad you went and enjoyed it. Good for you! : ) Hugs

hey! at times i can be a bull-in-a-china shop too. lol lol lol!!!!

I’m not sure I could live in the city, almost did many years ago. But if I did, I would be out on the town constantly. There are so many cultural events! Ex & I would go the St. John – Divine to see the Early Music Concerts all the time. And don’t get me started on the theatre. We will certainly need to meet up one day and partake in something wonderful.
