A candle for Sarah
For Kim’s daughter Sarah, my mother Judy, and other angels
I prefer it thank you
my hard won steady optimism
I glory in the fine things I see
in every one of my days
So don’t mind if I refuse
to dwell in shame and sorrow
because when I was redeemed
it was human hands that pulled me
up and out
and I know the power of
looking at someone else
only to see myself
Sarah
are you dancing now
peace be with your soul always
and thank you for the light
the beauty you imparted
the souls you blessed
while you lived here
I will hug for you
sing in your memory
and I will smile at ladybugs
all fragile beautiful things
because they matter
thank you for helping me remember
I offer my hopefulness
up to heaven and say
this is for Sarah and for Judy
your peace and mine
