expectations

are you suggesting;

I let your words slide

                               down

over

                     all of who I am

and penetrate

                      my memories      

                                              while gathering in the recesses of my mind?

Surely you don’t expect me to

                                                laugh

with you,

like nothing has happened    between us.

Like your words are not equivalent to bullets ricocheting through my mind.

 

                                                                                                            I could fall in love

                                                                                                            with you all over again

                                                                                                            if I let myself,

 

but I won’t.
