Destination Away

I haven’t been on the computer for like, a week. Ahh, to think of the times when going even a day without computer or internet seemed torturous. Between my phone and ipod I can check things easily, and even then I’m like a ghost. Sometimes I never get back to people who comment or message me, since I check my notifications, figure I’ll respond later, and then forget and never get around to it. I wonder how many people think I am cold or uncaring because of that. Oh well, the truth is far more boring.

I have a bike, again, finally. It’s such a basic thing…I had one as a kid and never used it. Something simple and taken for granted, but it makes a significant difference at the moment. A 40 minute walk to work or a 25 minute light run now takes 15 minutes, and I am getting exercise all the while. Plus, it’s simply fun. The wind is rushing at and past you, you can maneuver around things, it can be strenous, there’s no gas or insurance to worry about…it’s nice. I’ve already had my first accident. I rode to the bike shop after getting it from someone at work, bought the most expensive lock(the one I borrowed last year was stolen while I was at work, so I’m kinda paranoid), and rode back home, not having anything to take the tag off of the lock. It must have distracted me because it kept hitting my leg, I just know that something distracted me for a split second. When I looked back up, I was going off of the sidewalk. I tried to turn it back but the wheel dropped off the curb, and I flipped the bike. I gashed up my knee and hand pretty good, and my elbow a bit too, plus I tore a hole in my jeans and have some other sores. I’ve been having more pain in my neck, and I was somewhat sure at the time that I hit my head, but in retrospect I don’t think so. It was pretty foolish and careless of me, I’ve learned my lesson. It’s just a minor setback.

My friends Rob and Torrey are getting married next weekend; Saturday we had the bachelor/bachelorette party at my house. Nothing crazy, just the usual hanging out. No one got there until two hours after it was supposed to start, said featured guests were almost three hours later, so the planned poker and Rock Band festivities didn’t happen. Just a lot of drinking and Mortal Kombat, though the turnout was quite good. I was somewhat worried since one of my friends who is down from Portland due to being in the wedding was there, and she has history with several people, but it was fine. The night was crazy in certain ways – apparently some drunk guy got into a fight or almost did with a couple of the girls as some of the group was walking to 711. I don’t know the details, just that I was spared the drama thankfully. It went pretty late, and there was a lot of stuff to clean up, but all in all it went well. Anticipating the wedding.

Everything else continues. Even just getting on here to type an entry or look at Facebook, or even just browse the net, I feel…empty. Everything seems a shell of what it was previously. Habits, people, ideas out of reach that were not in the past. However, life is cyclical, and things rotate in and out, both new and old. I’ve learned to stop worrying about it. My quest to stop being empty, which consists of me doing nothing at all from what I have been doing and hoping that my feelings randomly come back, continues.

My best friend Matt will be visiting next month to sign the papers to go to Southern Oregon Univeristy in the fall, and then he’ll be moving in September. It sounded like he might have to stay in the dorms, which would kind of suck for him, but would work out best for me. I like my current situation a lot and living with my roomie, though I would get a place with Matt if I had to, since he’s moving out here and we’re going to form the band and all that. I want to keep things as they are and still add to it, we’ll see.

I got something from the government for taxes, which I knew would happen at some point. I assume they sent me something for my federal taxes, which I almost have enough money to pay off in plasma money, and should be able to supplement with money from working my demos. I guess I’ll still have state taxes to worry about probably, but even so it’ll be one dark cloud no longer looming overhead, and I’ll be able to start saving up for my trip to Seattle for PAX in late August.

Also, I need to file financial aid tomorrow. I definitely need to get it done now if I want to be starting in September. Ugh.
