Surgery Humor

Aloha…

A week ago… I had to undergo a minor surgery for a couple of skin cancers… the incision was 3 inches long… and the doctor found two different types of skin cancer… Squamous cell carcinoma and Basal cell… both minor in comparison to Melanoma (the one people die from)…

So… the incision was made… stuff cut out… and because there is a shortage of epinephrine (treats superficial bleeding)… he cauterized the wound (which produces a terrible smell… ie: burning flesh)…

14 interior stitches which will self dissolve… and then 22 exterior stitches which he will remove after 3 weeks…

After he was finished… and while I was still on the table… I asked him the following:

“Hey Doc… are you sure you know what you’re doing”…?

“Why”…?

“Because I just came in for an ingrown toenail”…?

Loud groan on the part of the Doctor…

Of course I didn’t say this to him while he had the scapel in his hand…

He called me earlier this week… good clear margins… all the cancer cells have been removed…

Aloha oe…

That’s a lot of “stuff”. I hope you’re done with surgeons for a good long while.

Hahah! That is quite the serious surgery. Very good to hear the positive outcome.

Glad your news is good, and remember – sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. I wear SPF 100, only because there is no SPF 200. Melanoma is more dangerous the closer it is to the mid-line of the body. One on your ear, for example has a very low probability of fatal metastasis, while one right between the eyes means you’re screwed.

Oh my gosh! 36 stitches? Minor surgery? We definitely have different perspectives on “minor.” Delighted to read that the surgery went well.

@zhnee Thank you…

Minor? Lots of stitches inside and out for “minor” but I suppose when you can go home the same day it is a good thing any day after a surgery. Glad he got it all. Too bad you didn’t get that ingrown toenail taken care of tho. 😉

Hi!  This is Grammy’s Heart.  For some reason, my diary name is showing up as kittypaws.  I’m trying to get them to change it back.  I’m glad to be back on OD.  Facebook just doesn’t do the same for those of us who used to be on here.  Hope to catch up on everyone soon!
