Open Diary
Aloha…
I was glad to be chosen to be one of the first group of beta testers… I’ve followed the rules… and after numerous errors mostly on my part… have managed to have quite a bit of fun here…
I am active on Facebook… follow a couple of O.D. groups… and would like to share with those of you who care… some of the silliness that continues to go on regarding the start up of O.D.
Former members write:
I hate the D.M…. I’m never going back… but when does it start (in case I change my mind)…?
The D.M. said it would be up by now… but it isn’t… wah… wah… wah…
If it’s not free… I’m not joining… though other sites don’t compare so I suppose I’ll join…
I want (something for nothing) it to be free… wah… wah… wah…
The site isn’t like before and I’m confused… hello… it’s in the testing phase…
I can’t… it won’t… the D.M…. well… you get the idea…
Oh yeah… one of my favorites is that the D.M. didn’t contact me… and I don’t understand why just because I deleted my journal… and can’t remember my email address… again… you understand…
I would say that a lot of these people are frustrated… and act like spoiled children… but I won’t… as it gives spoiled children a bad name…
I can not even begin to imagine the frustration the D.M. must have felt years before… offering a free place to write… and then suffering a fair amount of abuse from some members…
Now having written the above… I believe that those returning who are excited… and positive about what we are about to experience are in the majority…
For those of you who have asked me to be on your friends list… left notes for me… and allowed me a glimpse into your life… I say Mahalo nui loa…
And as for the D.M. as to why he is doing this… I think I have it figured out… so Mahalo nui loa to the D.M. and the whole crew…
Aloha oe…
@MauiJim, Some people don’t feel worthwhile until they can complain about someone else. I’ve been reading these comments on FB, too, and have been thinking to myself that if it’s that awful for them, they just shouldn’t be a part of it. We won’t miss them. If they do show up, I’m not likely to bother to read their diaries.
@singer I absolutely… 100% agree…! (smiles)

@MauiJim, I too have been reading a lot of the comments. Quite honestly, I try to just ignore them or I write something back to them that they cant respond to. Its ridiculous. I like it here and I am glad to be back. I am making some new friends and cant wait for some of my old friends to come in. There are definitely quite a few people that are interested even though it is going to be a pay site. Hell, I became a lifetime member so I can have the security and features that he is offering here now. So I say, Thank you again @The DiaryMaster! I love this place!
@sillysillysandee I could not have said this any better myself … !

@Maui Jim: I love this entry !! It’s humorous and yet, true!! When I was first e-mailed to be a tester, I was SO honored and felt so good. I was already so excited about OD coming back!!! And for a time, I will pay month to month, but, when I can move, (eventually) into an independent senior apartment, I’ll have more money and will pay yearly then. Or even get a lifetime subscription? So glad to see you and Mele Haliki Maka (sp) LOLOL a bit late, sorry.
@butterfly4him Yes… I remember just how excited I was when I opened the email inviting me to be a beta tester… that and realizing O.D. was returning…

Well said, Jim.
I’m not sure why the DM chose to come back, but part of me is hoping he missed the place like we did. I’ll stick with that for now, despite how naive it might be.
Regardless, I try to ignore the whiners. I never hesitated to spend money on OD cause it was worth every penny. Those who want a free lunch got more from the DM than they deserved. I suggested making OD pay only years ago, and am glad he’s doing it.
Cheers,
@peter_24601 I think that you are “spot on”…!

Thanks for this Jim, it is much appreciated – I hope that there are people who can see the value of this place, but if they don’t that’s fine too. I understand there are hurt feelings – but Peter supposes correctly, I mostly brought this place back because I missed it too. I’m so glad to have all of you back!
@thediarymaster OMG… we all get hurt at one time or another… that’s just part of life… it was the childish notes that put me off… but again… it is just a small minority… the majority do realize the value of O.D.and what you are doing…
It has been such joy… not just writing at this site… but finding old friends… and discovering new ones…
@thediarymaster : OMgoodness: I loathed all those terrible, smutty notes when I first came on here. They hurt my heart. Now, I feel sorry for those people, because it’s THEIR loss, but, they seem generally unhappy anyway. My philosophy is to “live & let live.” I try hard to practice my faith for real. I am still human, in a mortal shell, but, kindness can go for miles!! bighugz DM

Well said @mauijim. The @TheDiaryMaster brought back OD2 and it has been a great place and a blessing in many people’s lives.
Some people just can’t seem to look in the mirror and like what they see so they compline about everything else as a way to compensate.
Sure people have had problems but the OD2 staff have been great at addressing the issues and I know most of us here love them all for it!
@axalotal It has been my experience in life… that people strike out at those they love most when feeling hurt… because of unconditional love… such as when a child strikes out at a parent… I hope this makes some sense to you…

I have seen so many people compare it to an abusive ex that now wants you back and I’m just like…really? It was a website. I mean – obviously a website we were all very attached to, but I also understand that sometimes life gets in the way and businesses change or go under or what have you. Some people really took it as almost a personal injury when the site went down – which I suppose goes to show how important it was. But here’s the thing – unlike boyfriends (well, unless you are into a poly lifestyle) you can actually have more than one online journal. I still write at PB and will continue to write there. I can write here too. It doesn’t cost me anything.
And then there are the people who are all ‘but but but I had a LIFETIME membership and I’m still alive’! Aside from the fact that they are still being honored…I have never ever encountered a business that literally honored a lifetime membership for the lifetime of the person as opposed to the business.
I do understand the grief and pain, I do. And I understand people not wanting to switch over again, or having too many hard feelings – I would never say they have to come back or be happy about it. But some people really seem to want to spread their negativity around.
@asilliamagdalene Perfect… absolutely perfect…!

Heh, yeah the Facebook group does kind of sound like that. There are still a lot of folks with the ” … I miss OD so much, does anyone know Sparkleyunicorn of DEaths real name? ”
@haredawg Aloha ha ha ha… yeah… I get it…

For me it’s a delight to have Open Diary back. I have missed OD. I have missed everyone that I once “talked” to. I am grateful to have OD, and I am grateful that (I think) DM missed all of us as well.
@zhnee I echo your feelings… almost “home” again…

Well said, Jim… I go to those sites on occasion for entertainment only (I have no life!!) Like you, I felt privileged to be ask to come back for the testing phase. I haven’t been a lot of help since I’ve been caretaking almost the entire time, but I haven’t had any problems at all. I appreciate the DM so very much! There is nothing like our OD family!
@seafarer “Family”… Exactly…!

This thread of notes makes me glad, thanks everybody, and thanks @mauijim for hosting it 🙂
@thediarymaster He mea iki (You’re welcome)…

I totally agree with everything you said here. I agreed with it (even though it wasn’t written) when OD went down. I thought, “If I had to listen to people like this, I would shut the whole thing down, too.” I was a little bit jealous when I heard that you were asked to be a “secret tester,” LOL I thought there was no way that my “lifetime” subscription would be honored after all this time, but it was! I’m totally impressed.
@startingover_1 Seems a bit like: alls well that ends well… and I for one am glad you’re here…!
@mauijim Thanks! 😋
@startingover_1 You are most welcome…!

I agree with a lot that has been said here. Some people just like to complain. And as for the changes? I don’t mind them. Everything changes. Facebook and Twitter have gone through a lot of changes throughout the years and people complain for a bit and then get used to it.
And as much as some people may miss the personalization, I actually really appreciate the simplicity. In old OD, there were some diaries I just couldn’t read. Not because of the content, but because of the garish/glaring colors and glitter tags and tiny fonts.
Change is inevitable. And it’s not necessarily a bad thing. We can choose how we react to it.
@kellzbellz Aloha… I have a saying posted on my fridge: When the pain of suffering is greater than change… you will change…! d(smiles)

Haha… you’re right, people always want something for nothing. We were chosen as Beta testers because we were Lifetime members… we’re the ones that shelled out $100 US and took a leap of faith. You don’t get something for nothing!!
@schizophelia Perfect response… absolutely perfect…!!!

I’m glad OD is back, and can’t fault anything so far. Once we’re out of Beta Test mode, I expect great things. Yes, it’s not like the old OD, and people hate change. As someone who never fed into the Facebook presence, this is nice to have back. I can truly say I missed it.
@bedlamhillfarm Me too…!!! (smiles)

I quit reading the comments cuz I just don’t get holding on to and rehashing so much anger and resentment. To each their own, tho. I’m glad the site it back and I’m glad to be here.
@zinnia I’m glad you’re here as well…! (smiles)

@mauijim previously mentioned that we are all life members, although I suspected such – didn’t know it to be a fact till now, so the common thread was our willingness to invest in a good product. It was an outstanding site then, its already one now. I can’t wait to go “live” and see if the rest of the world agrees with me. You do get what you pay for. As for the negativity – I can’t see people paying to be somewhere they don’t enjoy being. I’m expecting the site to be overwhelmingly positive. AND you can swear in notes!
@petersshadow Absolutely… great perception…!
