Chetco Bar Fire

Aloha…

Watching the news about the fires in northern California… I wanted to share my experience about our fire here that affected Brookings, Oregon (where I live)…

Imagine if you will… an area in size of 200,000 football fields… brush and trees… steep ravines… and a fire that was totally out of control…

1700 firefighters on the line… hundreds more personnel and equipment here in town… never knowing when we will have to evacuate…

Eventually it was attacked by air… helicopters and bombers… now 100 percent contained… but not out… nor will it be out until the heavy rains of winter deal with it…

We only lost a few homes… and as I watch the news about the California fires… I truly realize… and am thankful that due to the hard work of the firefighters… and the onshore winds… that our town was spared…

Aloha oe…
