Life Updated
So many lengthy and eloquent entries I’d have written over the past couple of months, had I been updating! But now there is no time and besides the impetus is gone
so it will just be little vignettes of the most important happenings:
Firstly, I am no longer working on the beautiful garden. My contract expired, and I had to leave amongst many tears, only some of which were my own. I go back to visit sometimes, but it’s not quite the same. Besides anything else, I no longer get paid for being there! In fact, I don’t get paid much at all for anything at the moment, which is a little depressing. But there are several things on the horizon, so it’s not all dire!
Secondly, Ali and I broke up. All of two weeks before she was due to actually move down here at long last! Oh yes, we suck. Actually, I suspect she’d already found someone else, due to the way things fell out, but I harbour no hard feelings. I came to realise that as much as I like her, combining her life with mine just wouldn’t work.
Also, I have amazingly found myself surrounded by lesbians! Remember Mare, my lovely new friend? She got a new flatmate, ‘Sephone, who quite randomly turned out to be gay as well. The three of us went to a lesbian coffee evening together, discovered we were the only women there under the age of 45 and decided to do something about it. So we set up a young dykes group. For a lengthy amount of time, this consisted of Mare, ‘Sephone and myself, but we advertised in the women’s house and made ourselves known to the lesbian help-line and gradually more and more young dykes came out of the woodwork! Now on a good day, there are about 10 of us aged between 19 and 31, and not one of whom I don’t consider a good friend. It’s all very nice.
The most notable members of the group, who I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about are:
Mary II, who shares my name so we call her Ree and me Lena (short for “Magdalene”, you see). She’s crazy and lovely and along with Mare and ‘Sephone is one of my best friends in the area.
Heather, who is sweet and shy and beautiful and who I discovered I have a rampant crush on after a particularly weird dream the other day. Which may get complex since Mare also fancies her (oooh, doesn’t this sound like a teeny-bopper diary suddenly).
Athena, who is a gorgeous and ridiculously talented redhead who Mare and ‘Sephone are trying their damnedest to set me up with, but who makes me unbearably shy.
Aside from that, life has been going on. There have been some little adventures along the way, such as climbing a mountain in jeans in the rain, accidentally getting drugged, becoming a motoring outlaw and trying to burn the house down & losing my favourite skirt in the process. I’m learning to belly dance, and I’m learning to not be scared when men twice my size throw me on the floor and pin me there (ie, I’m taking aikido lessons). Spring is here, I’m still living in my tree-hut on the shores of my lake and life is pretty much grand.
How about you guys?
We’re just glad to see you home!! Yeah, there’s lots of room in Korea for Kiwis with English degrees – check out http://www.daveseslcafe.com! Hugs, Lady D (or Sandi in Korea, as she’s known now)

wowee, sounds like you’ve been quite the busy bee… sucks about ali, but oh well, there’s plenty of fish in the sea, right? 😉 especially now that you know where the young dykes are!

There is something your life that strikes me as exquisite. I’m not exactly sure whether or not you’d be laughing at that notion.
