The mail bringeth good things **EDIT***

Bringeth??? Is that even a word lol   well it is today.

I just got in from picking up the mail. Usually I loathe junk mail and never even bother to sift through it to see if there is anything good in it but today there was only one piece of "junk" mail amongst all the other mail.

I threw it on the counter and realized what it was. It was an advertisement for Premier Fitness Gym. Remember a day or two ago I was asking about Fitness Centers?  So I picked it up and checked it out. It was a scratch and win card. I scratched and got 90% off of a yearly membership. A year membership costs $249.00 so techincally I could get a years membership for $25.00 bucks AND a free gift to go with it. Either a mountain bike, a spa treatment or a personal trainer.  I’m thinking this is too good to be true. There has to be a catch. So I flipped the card over and on the back it’s stating the rules and stuff and it says something like all yearly memberships are charged a bi monthly fee somewhere between 14.50-44.50 for maintenance. What the hell is that crap. Maintenance for what? So lets do some simple math here….44.50 bi monthly equals out to $1068.00. You’ve got to be kidding me. I am NOT paying that price to join a gym. I’d rather  spend it on a Big Mac. hahaha just kidding 🙂

Anyway, does anyone really know what these "maintenance" fees are all about and why they charge them? Even at 14.50 bi monthly that’s over 300 bucks a year (more than the membership is)  I’m confused. Do all fitness centres charge a maintenance fee or what?  Like I said I’ve never been to one so I don’t know and don’t want to look like an ass when I call LOL

***EDIT***  I’m so stupid sometimes.  I do know what bi-monthy means and bi-weekly etc. I guess because we pay our employees bi-weekly (usually twice a month) I got it inmy head that bi-monthly would be twice a month knowing full well it’s not.   Can you say dunce?  Thx for straightening me out Gym_Gurl LOL

bimonthly = once every 2 months semimonthly = twice every month It’s still kind of expensive but not as bad as that. I don’t know what the fees are for. I go to a university gym so it’s really cheap.

That’s rediculous. If I were you I would _not_ look into that gym. My health club is 24-hours. It charges the average person $40 a month for unlimited use. If you want to sign up for a personal trainer then they charge per session, but other than that there are _no_ other fees. Some gyms might even charge you less, just shop around. 🙂

P.S. If that gym charges $44.50 bi-monthly that’s a little under $300 a year. Still a little steep, I think, but better than over a grand.

Relax theres lots of different fittness centers around. I’m not sure but I would think the fitness centers that are women oriented only are cheaper than the co-ed ones like 24 hour fittness, golds gym and so on. Just shop around. If anything you could take fitness related classes at a local community college. Those are so much cheaper.

Its friggin fate! Gym memberships are a lot of money. That is so great!

Sorry hit enter too fast. They are probably giving you $$ off the joining fee maybe? My work discount let me waive the joining fee but usually it can be steep. Especially at a place like curves. I would ask before you bought. Maintenance costs a lot if everyone is paying that much. And why is it staggered? 14-44????

Sounds like it’s just a ploy to get you in the door. If they’re this dishonest in their advertising I’d hate to see how shady they are in their regular business practices. I’d say keep looking.

^^I agree, you better becareful w/that!! xoxo

That’s a big reason I haven’t joined a gym yet. I’ve heard so many horror stories about people being taken for a ride, or being taken advantage of by the small print. You’ll find a good gym though, just keep looking.

I belong to Bally’s and my membership is $18.00 a month and that’s all I get charged.

RYN: I dont mind you said that all. I thought the same thing, but so many people kept saying it looked ok, so I thought maybe I was just being too hard on myself. I’m glad somebody else agrees with me.
