Thanksgiving 2011

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends. Happy Sunday to everyone else 🙂

Its been a while since I’ve written. No big surprise there.

I’ve been fairly busy the last few weeks. I’ll try to recap what I’ve been up to.

Friday Sept 23 hubby flew out to Calgary to spend some time with his brother. I didn’t feel like going for 10+ days so I flew out by myself to meet him on the following Wednesday. Now you have to know I absolutely HATE flying. HATE it. but I did it. and I did it alone without issues. I wonder if it’s hubby that makes me so nervous when I fly because when I was alone I had NO problems. Hmmm  either way it was a great experience to know I can do it if I have to. 🙂

While in Calgary we visited a lot of places. We went to West Edmonton mall which was a waste of time. 3 hours there and 3 hours back and about an hour at the mall. Everyone was boasting how fabulous this mall is. Well it’s not that great folks. It has a skating rink, a kids area with roller coaster and rides, a wave pool and a casino. Whoopie. I suppose if I were 12 again I’d enjoy it much more. The stores there are not that fabulous either and there are quite a few duplicate stores. One on each floor…um weird.

Then we went to Red Deer to visit relatives. I knew Holly lived in Alberta but wasn’t 100% sure where. I’m so bummed I probably drove past her house and didn’t even know it. Next summer for sure when I go out there, I’ll meet up with you, Holly and I can meet baby Ava. that would be amazing.

One of the days we went to Banff. Oh My God. I have never seen such beauty in my entire life. If you’ve seen pictures of the mountains out there are you lucky. If you have seen the mountains up close you are blessed. Honestly pictures are pretty but those mountains take your breath away. Such beauty. Alberta is a fantastic place and I would not hesitate to move there if the cards fell properly. It’s THAT pretty.

The only downfall of our visit is that our brother and sister in law smoke. Nasty stinky dirty habit and I could not breath right the entire time we were there. I was coughing like a 30+ year smoker myself. Gross. But other than that what a beautiful time we had. Oh we also had dinner at the Calgary Tower too. So nice.

We came back home on Oct 4 and I was so happy to be home. My kitties were happy to see me too. 🙂

I was afraid I would gain weight while I was there but I did the opposite. I lost 4 lbs. Woo Hoo. That makes it about 60 lbs since January. SLOW but steady and I’m not depriving myself of the good things (chocolate) in life 🙂

Today we had Thanksgiving dinner. I made a Ham with smoked BBQ sauce on it in the crock pot. Smashed garlic potaters with gravy. Caesar salad, corn, apple pie and ice cream. I didnt have pie or ice cream because I was already full and I told myself to stop eating when I was full.

I also received some pretty disturbing news over the past few weeks. My favourite uncle that I stayed with a lot when I was growing up was diagnosed with aggressive thyroid cancer. He’s doing chemo as we speak. Hopefully he is successful and the chemo works. Also my cousin who is 35 yrs old has colon!! cancer with metastatic cancer in her intenstines. She is 35 and has 6-12 months left 🙁  So unfair.  If you pray please keep them in your prayers. If you don’t pray please keep them in your thoughts.

I’ve been using the wii fit a lot lately. it’s actually fun. I even got hubby started. It’s like a competition to see who can get 1st place first. 🙂

Good night all 🙂

I went to west ed when i was 12 and it wasn’t all that great to me either. We went for lots of shopping which there was none of in Cold Lake and mom is a shopper 🙂 glad you had fun in calgary though, i loved banff too. i didn’t think water could get that green/blue. beautiful. so sorry about your cousin and uncle. it’s so scary when someone close to my age is dying of cancer. it’s not fair. for

for anyone but young people too. i still feel like i’m young but this **** is happening more and more. good for you for stopping when you are full. i eat so fast now i have no idea when i’m full. it’s gonna be awhile until i start losing weight again. which is sad because holy eff, i am breastfeeding even if i don’t have enough milk. doesn’t surprise me that it didn’t work for me to lose weight.

i have to work like a dog to lose a pound every two weeks. i’m reading someone on here, not a fave but i’m reading them and they are losing like 3-4 lbs a week still, months later. i can’t help but feel pissed and wonder how some people can do that. yeah i’m bitter. now i’m starving all the time again. sorry to rant in notes. oops loll perhaps i should shut up and write an entry of my own lol

Good job with flying and with the weight loss! Woot! The wii fit is a lot of fun, we just got one recently too 😀

I love the mountains – they are absolutely beautiful. But I still miss the ocean back East! Did you have a chance to visit Moraine Lake near Lake Louise? That is my favorite. The blue of the water is incredible. I hate West Ed! You have to go at least once just to experience it, yes, but otherwise I try and avoid it at all costs. There is a new mall near Calgary called CrossIron Mills that is much

better in my opinion! Brand new – better stores, and while it is always busy as well, it’s not nearly as insane as West Ed. We will definitely have to get together sometime! Glad you had a good flight and didn’t mind it too much. I hate flying too. I am fine when I am in the air, but absolutely hate take off and landing! I always squeeze the **** out of Matt’s hand! haha.

I am so sorry to hear about your family members having cancer. Cancer affects so many people, it’s unreal and so sad.. especially someone so young. It breaks my heart.

RYN: Thank you for your kind words.

happy Canadian thanksgiving to you. 🙂 ryn: in our case, Fabian just would eat food so fast that he would then throw it up. no medical reason for it. the cat behavior specalist I talked to (catsinternational.org is free!) suggested I serve him food on a plate so he’d have to work a bit harder to eat it – food from a bowl was easier to shovel in, but if it’s on a plate he has to grab each piece to eat it. that did slow him down, but he still would eat too much and get sick. so then I heard about the cat food balls. here’s what we got: http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-SlimCat-Food-Distributor-Ball/dp/B0018CG40O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322956164&sr=8-1 or if you dont want to copy and paste, just do a search on amazon for ‘cat food balls.’ I read the reviews on there, found that it helped a lot of people whose cats did the same thing. it worked really well. Fabian can’t eat a lot of food really fast, so he’s only thrown up just a few times since we got it a few months ago. he used to throw up a few times each week, so that’s a huge difference! it was cheap, and it works to slow him down, so it’s worth it to us. 🙂

RYN: Thank you, I am trying to start a small jewelry business to help with tough times. I am glad you like it. Thanks for stopping by, hadn’t seen you in a while 🙂

RYN: 15- she’s 15!

RYN: Yeah, that’s not really the issue there, but thanks anyway. I don’t see myself mending anything with her. I’ve been there done that DOZENS of times, and she always invents some new reason to be a victim. I’m just sick of trying, I don’t even care about it anymore.
