Thursday Before Christmas
Im not sure where the time goes but I seem to be going and going all the time. Although I am at that age where I can say that Im very grateful to be going for as long as possible. Im so glad to be healthy and lively with only an ache here and there. I have become one of those old folks who can now predict rain by the (meniscus tear) injury to my left knee from last February. Oh, the joys of old age.
Its been unnaturally cold and wet here in Southern California and Im loving every minute of it. Its not that I like cold weather but just like having something different and its very welcome at this time of year. We get to actually feel like its Christmas time, all bundled up like movies and Christmas cards. I can never get used to a heat wave at Christmas time.
Weve recovered from the major painting ordeal in the house, except weve still yet to hang up paintings and pictures. Id do it but theyd be crooked so Ill have to nag a little to get that done. Im getting pretty good at it although Ive learned there is a fine line you must walk when nagging the husband. I dont have it quite right yet but I will and the house is staying much tidier. I still dont know why having everything in its place has become more important to me than it was before but like a lot of things, I dont care why. It just is. Im not a neat freak nor will I become one. I like to save my stress for more important things.
Christmas preparations are slowly coming together. Shopping has mostly been done and wrapped. We decorated the tree today. Changed this year to a just a little tree rather than the normal to large size we used to get. Put this little tree up on a table, wrapped the table in a dark green tablecloth and it looks just fine. Got down my beautiful punch bowl that normally spends its entire existence in a cupboard because who serves punch anymore? Bought some white and silver ornaments, half priced and filled the bowl and now it has a new purpose. Threw some holly and a couple more ornaments into my mothers cut crystal bowl on the dining room table and another masterpiece appeared. The spirit of Martha Stewart must be hovering around here somewhere.
Christmas Eve will be spent here with the kids and presents and lots of fun and laughter. Christmas Day with Terrys family, usually not much fun, hardly any laughter but doable.
Then the day after Christmas, our friends will come here for dinner with the beloved twins and well have our own little Christmas together, which I look forward to also.
Hopefully, Ill make it through the season without become fat and jolly. I dont mind the jolly part too much but for me its also the season of Sugar, which is my biggest weakness.
well, Ill just think about that tomorrow.

Oh, how delightful. I’m sitting here grinning. Martha Stewart indeed. I do believe in reuse of things like that punch bowl. What a shining example. And down here, it’s my broken leg that paves the way.

My husband made a terrarium out of my punchbowl many years ago. But, I have a large glass dish that was a wedding present 39 years ago (can’t believe I haven’t broken it yet). Maybe I’ll try some ornaments in it! Great idea. I’m really enjoying our cold weather too.

Your decorations sound grand. Have you ever watched “Whatever, Martha”? It is a Martha Stewart production where Martha’s daughter and a girlfriend dissect some old Martha segment about making your bed or making a purse from a cigar box. It’s funny, although Martha’s daughter sometimes lets her animosity toward her mother show through.

Change one name and you’ve nailed my Christmas too. Love the idea with the punchbowl. Now…ours will have a purpose too.

ryn: I love Claros. I go to the hairdresser just two doors from there. It is so cold and crisp tonight. We can see every star in the sky. This is so much better than it being in the 80s for Christmas.

You and I are on the same decorating wavelength. I bought gold and red unbreakable ornaments (because of the cats) and put them in a cut glass bowl, a gold star shaped basket and an hourglass shaped vase and Martha Stewart smiled somewhere. LOL Merry Christmas!
