If you’re thinking of going curly

I get up to parts of my hair being flat.  Or it starts to look frizzy.

I just use a spray bottle of distilled water.  Or I used to.  The Curly Girl book said put a few drops of lavender oil in it.  I did.  The curly hair website said add 100% organic aloe vera juice.  I did.  So now it’s distilled water, a few drops of lavender oil and a slug or two of aloe vera.

The top is the one after the spritzing.  It’s starting to curl again.

See Parker in there wearing his (always) plaid shirt? That’s his slightly confused “why are you doing that” look.  He often has that look with me.

I have wavy hair, have spent a lot of time and money over the years trying to straighten it, then gave up and went curly. Then I had a keratin treatment, and it’s straight as a board. But I will go back to curly next year, as I move on to outdoor life in a warmer climate.

I have this spray bottle “mister” that I’ve been using since last fall in my curly hair… it’s a game changer for me.  My hair LOVES mist!

@bambamgotchatwice mine too.  It isn’t just the curl.  I think the gray hair needs it

Parker is making a face I know I make once in awhile 🙂

I have short straight thick hair. I wish it was curly! This morning we woke up with very cold icy weather. It had been so nice the past weeks. Almost like Spring? So this morning the world around looked white again. Argg! There was also this museum visit and lunch together with a bunch of friends this morning and I would have to wear a hat because of the cold wind. Hubby asked me: what are you going to do with your hair? it looks like a pancake on your head…

So, if I had curly hair it would stay curly, even under my hat. Now it’s straight and taking off my hat makes it look even worse. Sigh!

There’s a really great resource online for curly girls on http://www.reddit.com/curlyhair .. I’ve gotten a ton of tips from there.

I also love all products Shea Moisture and Cantu.

@shambala thanks for the tips!

looks fine to me in both pics.  My hair is very straight ( and long) and in past years I had a perm or two but it wasn’t healthy and I won’t do it again. I guess we simply have to make the most fof what we have…. smiles p

You are adorable Margaret. I too was blessed with a good head of hair. In fact I think we have the same hair. I still get mine highlighted with the blond of my younger days, but I’m hiding a lot of grey. I honestly would like to let it go grey and not bother with the time and expense of foils. But I’m not quite there yet. I currently use DevaCurl gel to enhance my curls but would prefer the simplicity (and thriftiness!) of natural products.  I’ll give the water, lavender, aloe vera concoction a try! Thanks! ~Peace

@marathonmama thank you!  Although the spray didn’t replace the gel.  It’s more of a supplement

As I get older, certain sections of my hair get curlier.  It’s kind of difficult to manage when you’re not dealing with the same thing everywhere!

@dlk082244 it’s true.  Although my hair dresser is trained in making it work together, I think

I’ve read your memories and sent you a friend request.  I hope you will accept it.  We have some friends in common, and we also have God in common:)

@grammysheart I am happy to accept and look forward to reading yours

I’m so sorry I’m late.  I thought I had already read but I was wrong.  I sure do love the color of your hair.  It’s really quite becoming.  I like the curls too.

@wildrose_2 Thank you!

I think you’re beautiful! and I’m envious. I’ve spent so much of my life, trying for curls……am presently letting my “white” hair become my “color”……used to be very blonde….to hide grey so it’s an easy transition for me. Which means no more foils!! no long appts at hair salon…..no roots to fix….and it’s FREE. And am loving it.

@marieelena it IS freeing!  And, I think, a great example to younger women to love being older, wiser and more focused on who we are rather than how society wants us to be, if that makes sense
