Take Me Out To The BallGame

The MLB season is in full swing, and for the first time in years, I have legitimate hope in my Cincinnati Reds.  They have been on a great streak lately, which has shot them up the standings to a tie in first place.  I love it!  They have a great young core of talent, who hustle and have fantastic team chemistry.  I love Bruce and Votto, and I love the acquistion of Taveras.  Mr. Jocketty has built this team around speed and defense, and it is making a tremendous impact on our pitchers.  We had solid pitching with Harang, Arroyo, Volquez, Owings and Cueto (HAVOC), but they are only getting better with great defense.

With winning comes attendance.  Cincinnati fans are making their way down to the ballpark, and it’s causing a great buzz in the city.  At home, parents are turning off the personalized kids cds of Elmo, Veggie Tales, or Barney, and the kids are tuning into 700 WLW to hear Marty and the crew.  Baseball on the radio is a sacred and glorious thing.  The management have made a few other great changes like bringing back the $5 dollar seats and selling $1 hot dogs.  This is helping make it affordable for parents to bring their kids to the game.  You don’t have to come only on the days of Kid Glove raffle tickets, you actually want to pay to buy a ticket and come to the game.  It’s a healthy thing to let kids come to the ballpark.  It keeps them from sitting at home playing with their too many to count toys from grandma and grandpa.  Give the toys a break and go watch something that’s real.  Something that’s team oriented and fun to watch.  Baseball has tons of lessons for kids.   It’s great.  Last Saturday was a sellout for the Reds, and I know lots of friends who went.

So, keep it up Redlegs.  You are bringing an excitement to this town that hasn’t happened for a while.
