Lunch at Andre’s

I share a lunch time slot with my colleagues one hundred and seventy-five days a year.   The bulk of those are twenty-two minutes in length, rushed, and spent discussing students and curriculum.  Occasionally, we will have a work day in which we are given an hour to go out for lunch, but students, curriculum and other work related topics seem to prevail.  The job seems to consume us, and our limited free time.

I absolutely adore the group of people that I work with.  We are like a mini family.  We really have an all for one, and one for all mentality.  Prior to the end of the school year, we set up several dates during the summer in which we would come together, share a meal, and talk.  Today we met at Andre’s and dined on Pork Grandmere dumplings and spatzli salad.  The food was marvelous!  Even more, the conversation about our children, grandchildren, spouses, summer projects and planned vacations were awesome.  We arrived at 11:30 a.m. and exited the building at 2:00 p.m. with smiles on our faces and full tummies.  I will tell you that a trip to Andre’s is just not complete without chocolate.

There was no talk of school, students, or curriculum……just eight women who shared a meal and their lives.  No hustle or bustle.  The clinking of silver on china and laughter that filled the little corner of the restaurant.  Here’s to summer and friends.  I am so looking forward to June 20th!  Next stop Ponak’s and some of the best Mexican food in Kansas City.  Look out Southwest Boulevard!  Here we come!

RYN: Mother’s cookies is major Brand and if you have them you would know. From what I know of them they are a West Coast brand.. I never found them Oversea at the comissary(we got our food from the East Coast) and I haven’t seen them north of Colorado. If you have never heard of them then your store probably doesn’t get them. Also it is not so much that they are creamy.. just that the two cookiesI bought have creame centers like Oreo’s.
