FebMusMo #1 – Inspiration

Yay for February Music Month!

Prompt for today is: Play a Song that Inspires You.

It’s one of the few prompts that I actually came up with and suggested.

So here it is – one of the more inspirational songs I’ve found:

When I originally came up with the idea for the Centauri Primitus story, it was going to be about a very young girl who’s in a colony on an alien world.  It still had the main problem of the lack of crops growing and focused on the girl’s watching of the town going to pieces.  She ends up having dreams where they mixed the last of the ship’s fuel into the soil and then of the plants growing.  The main conflict was going to be around the idea of whether or not the colonists would believe the young girl and take their last chance of leaving the planet and use it to try to make a better start on the alien world.  I have no clue how it ended.

When I was plotting out the novel for NaNoWriMo, I was listening to music on Pandora and a Kamelot song from their Epica album came on… I fell in love with the music and then hit Youtube for more Kamelot music — found this song.  As I listened, I ended up closing my eyes and could just see an older (but still young) woman falling in love but the whole romance being set up with the knowledge that there was no hope for it – that no matter what it ended early with a death.  I kept tweaking the story idea until I got the plot that I’m currently using.

Without this song, I don’t think I would have had a story to finish for NaNoWriMo, and I know that I wouldn’t have had the story I do.  Which I WILL get the second draft finished of this month.
