Milestone

I have officially been writing The West Wind for two weeks and a day. I’ve actually only spent 11 of those writing. Today I hit 30,000 words and anticipate another 5 – 10 thousand more before I complete the first draft. I’m pretty happy with myself, I must say. It’s almost time to start thinking about alpha and beta readers. My ultimate goal was to finish the first draft by my birthday at the end of the month. Since I imagine at this pace I’ll finish before that deadline, perhaps I can push harder and at least accomplish a second draft by that time. Perhaps I can even publish it by Christmas. Accomplishment: best present ever? 

I’ll leave you with a couple of very brief excerpts from the story to tease you. 

“Well, that was interesting,” Zach said to his son.
“I’m not entirely certain what just happened.”
“Woman scorned,” Zach said, as if it explained everything.

". . . You two look like you’re about to eat each other.”
Hero laughed. “Eat each other?”
“Like love-zombies,” Jaimie said, turning her nose up in the air.
Hero burst out laughing. “Well, we can’t have that, can we?” she joked.
“No, you’ll probably start a love-zombie apocalypse or something.”

And that’s all for today. I must go vote, which irritably means I have to travel half an hour to my polling place instead of going to the one a minute away from here. Thank you, Idaho, for making exercising my rights more difficult. After which, I drive back to dance! Huzzah!
