Chapter XXXIX: Return to Azurat (Cont. V)

“Baen has removed the shadow,” it said in a voice of a dark, mechanical nature. “Do you hear me Guardian of Death?”

Yes.

“Why do you not attack him?”

There are others who shall do battle.

“Do you not see what shall happen if you do not battle? More is at stake than you think. It is not our victory that we must battle for, but our death. We must die.”

He draws too near now, we are too late.

“Never. You are afraid to die….again?”

I have been granted new life. I shall not give it up for others who are living but one.

“You are a coward. Live a cursed life foul servant.”

Rather a cursed life than a peaceful death.

Rah shook his head and closed his mind off. There was no arguing with the Servant of Death now; he had cowardly fled from battle and wouldn’t sacrifice himself. Rah, however, wasn’t about to let those he was serving suffer, he knew what he had to do. If Baen had dropped the shadows, then he was close….but things existed, which meant that he had not won. Rah knew he wouldn’t win….it would just be a matter of how much the rest of the world lost as well. And with that, Rah marched off through the wastes with an uncanny speed; he was but a seeming streak moving across the lands.

“Baen has dropped the shadow from the minds of the six….well, the two. But only one is heading towards him.” Adelia’s lips had moved without her control. She shook off the trance and glanced back at the others. “He is drawing close!”

Thyrus glanced up at the walls that remained small on the horizon, then glanced over to one of the towers that remained standing, though it had been abandoned by all the guards now that strange things were occurring all over Azurat. He glanced up at the tower’s top and the identification rune carved into the tower. He glanced back at the group and over at Kiki. “Everyone, don’t panic! I have an idea!”

The group glanced over at him with curiosity. “What do you mean, an idea?”

“Listen, it will take too long for us all to reach Azurat city, so I will ride Kiki into Azurat and get the temporal psyche-transporter, then transport right here to the tower and then we can all transport to Cion Sky!”

Eza fluttered up and chimed, “But it can only be used once!”

Thyrus smiled, “Always make a spare, I say.” He grinned.

Samden sighed, “Why didn’t you say that when I asked you about using it twice.”

Thyrus, “Because that wasn’t what you asked….what you asked was….”

“Does it really matter?” West stepped between the two.

Blackheart stepped forward, “I don’t like you going alone into Azurat city….not when we haven’t even seen that horde and that Xul’Nue!”

Adelia closed her eyes for a moment, “I don’t think Thyrus will need to worry.”

Blackheart glanced over, “Are you sure?”

Adelia’s eyes opened, “Yes. Because half are moving towards Cion Sky and the other half are heading towards us right now.”

Blackheart drew his blade, “How far are they?”

Adelia, “Not too far away….and they’re moving fast.”

West stepped forward, “I thought that you said that we couldn’t fight them, that they were too powerful!?”

Blackheart glanced back, “We don’t have any choice! Go Thyrus! You get on the Kiki and take Adelia with you! If you transport here and we’re dead, it will be up to you two!”

Adelia glanced at the group, “You can’t do this!”
