Slowness of Light

So I always got that the speed of light was constant.

That as anything approached it, it became heavier, and to a stationary observer distances shortened and time slowed down.

That time must slow down in order to keep light’s speed constant. But from the object in motion’s perspective, everything is normal.

It’s all relative to the observer’s viewpoint. Relativity. I always got that.

What I never thought of before was that the reason you can’t go faster than light, is that you can never go slower than light. The crux is in the meaning of the word ‘go’.

When you move, of course you move though space. When you sit still, you are still moving… through time. Or rather, ‘still-moving’ through space-time. You are always moving through space-time at the same speed: when you sit still you are moving through time as fast as possible, and space not at all; when you move through space, you use energy, and in using energy you can no longer move through time as fast as possible. (Of course, we move so slowly through space compared to how fast you have to move to see a difference, our watches never notice.)

So if you move though space as fast as possible, you can no longer move through time at all. Time stops, or rather, you stop moving through it. To an observer, you shrink down to a point, then disappear. That’s because while you are not moving through time you are still moving through space. The observer continues to move through time, away from the time you are in. Since you are not moving through time, but you are moving through space, you are no longer when and where they were looking. Until you stop moving (or slow down at all to turn), you will not appear to anyone else since they need time to see you. Then you instantaneously appear at whatever location you slow down.

Trouble is, in order to move that fast, you must be pure energy. Pure energy moves that fast, and has no mass. Pure energy transverses all of time and space.

Pure energy is the stuff thoughts are made of.

Wow! It never occurred to me that while time is our own construct we are also bound by in more ways than the average business man could ever realize. Do I understand correctly? To have observed movement through space you must have time and vice versa. Enlightening! You conclusion opens whole new lines of thought about thought vs energy…Makes more sense than the average psychic mumbo-jumbo now!
