RideStrong

MySpace ads were annoying me while blogging, and so I’m back here writing. I don’t publicly blog much these days- busy cycling, working out to keep the back in shape for cycling, photographing, and oh yeah, working the day job.

Anyway, the Lance Armstrong Foundation LiveStrong Challenge is this Sunday.
I’m riding the 100 mile option, and I’m ready.

Last-minute support can be made here.

Route map, roads/towns we’re riding through are in the next entries.

I haven’t posted the summer of progressive workouts leading up to now, which I wanted to do, but I did record them all. I also traveled so much that it was tough to keep a regular routine, so I improvised a lot.

Basically I shot for: 3 rides a week (1 long, 1 w/sprints or hills, 1 medium at a good pace); 1 cardio workout on the elliptical (preferably with the cross ramp feature); 2 sessions of PT (core strength and stability exercises). I also stretched every chance I could- sitting at my desk at work (hamstrings), watching TV (hamstrings, thighs, calves), sitting in public transportation or waiting areas (spine and lower back muscles). Worked something in as often as I could remember.

With my schedule this year, if I did half that any given week I was satisfied.

For those near Philly- the route map/profile and my best guesses at the streets are in the next postings. C’mout ad cheer!

They picked some roads I wouldn’t have shosen to ride on. A lot of stop and go, so the average time is going to drop from my earlier goal. I’m shooting for 6 hours of riding time, which is 16.7mph. I figure 45 minutes of downtime, from intersections and quick rest breaks. That puts me at the finish around 1:45, just after Greg and Dylan play their set at the post-event party.

Oh yeah, I got to help select bands for the post-event party, and am also helping with Saturday’s pasta dinner( with Lance, for the higher money-raisers). The post event party has 4 or 5 acts, 2 or 3 of which (I’m not sure of the final schedule) are friends. I hope to pick up my pace by riding with others enough to finish before 1:30 so I can catch some of Greg and Dylan’s set.

I’ll definitely be there by the time Smyths start jumping around. And I hope they found time for Lauren Hart to play a quick solo set.
