Spare a thought for those in Asia

So maybe cos I haven’t been on here for a while I’ve missed it all.  However, it’s amazing…after 9/11 all I read on the majority of the diaries here concerned people and 9/11 and how shocked they were, how distraught at the loss of life etc etc.

Anyone reading this, don’t take this the wrong way, that was indeed a tragedy.  However, I find myself at a loss for words.

Reading and skimming diaries, I have not come across a single entry relating the mass scale tragedy that has happened in Asia.  The loss of life is phenomenal.  The destruction left in the wake of the tsunami/earthquake (whatever you wanna call it) is horrendous.  The children who have been left orphans, the parents losing children and burying their offspring, the number of lives completely shattered…..

It’s heart wrenching to watch the news, to read the papers…it was all I could do this morning to stop myself from crying on the train whilst reading the Metro and the plight of thousands.

And I’m sorry to say this also, but it kinda disgusts me that it seems not a thought is spared for those who are living in chaos at the moment, not knowing where each hour will take them or what it will bring…searching for hope…longing for miracles.

When exactly did life get so selfish?  “It’s not my country so I don’t care?”  You know, I’m not actually sorry to say this is how I feel.  It’s how I feel…lack of humanity – all because it isn’t something which adversely affects us in our nice cosy homes, making plans for New Years Eve…knowing we have money to buy food, that we can turn on the tap and drink a glass of water not having to think twice about whether we will catch some disease from the water we’re drinking.

Take a moment and think about your fortune.  Spare a thought for those in Asia whilst you welcome in the New Year.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m making 2005 a year where I dream of making the world a better place and do what I can to realise that dream.

Happy New Year folks….I hope 2005 brings you the realisation that what we take for granted in our lives is probably the most special thing we can have, and learn to appreciate it more.
