Shepherds Bush Empire, 20 July 2003, 7pm

I went to the Nitin Sawhney concert at Shepherds Bush Empire yesterday…..and it was really good. I enjoyed everything except that it finished so damn early! He was on for about an hour 15, and that long only cos when we he left the stage, everyone was like, ‘what…where ya gone?’!

Anyway, it was very good. Some of the songs (such as Broken Skin) sounded a lot better on the album, but overall, I enjoyed muchly!

What I like is that he is quite an unassuming man. He gets on, does his stuff, and enjoys it. Performs for himself, and feels the music each time….performs for his love of music rather than fame.

If you’ve never heard his stuff, I’d say try and listen to a few things. The good tracks to listen to are ‘Sunset’, ‘Immigrant’, ‘Cold and Intimate’….oh, there are actually loads, and it doesn’t really matter what you listen to first, you’ll want to listen to more!

Anyway, I’m not telling you anymore about him, ‘cos the more I say, the bigger he’ll become, and the more difficult it’ll get buy tickets to see him, and if he becomes too famous his music may change (though could be less likely), but so on and on….you get the picture!

Time to go. I shall try and put in a few more entries about my escapades over the past 3 weeks in India. I only got back Wed 16th, and have been ill since, so I’m just recouperating at the moment…..charging my batteries so to speak!

There is nothing like a good concert! I like album versions better than live versions many times myself. I love the reason for not telling us anymore about him.

But when he does become a superstar, you’ll be able to say “I liked him back before he became famous….!”

I have heard about Nitin Sawhney. Haven’t heard his music though. I have heard Talvin Singh’s music though.
