Seriously?
First of all… I just want to say that Toby Keith is so friggin’ hot! LOL I’m laying here watching Breaking Dawn reviews on YouTube and Toby Keith was on Jay Leno. Mmmm mmm mm. That man will always make me drool. =) I ♥ his new song.
And even though I don’t have to, I guess I’ll be nice and STOP you here. If you have not read Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer yet, and if you are planning on reading it, I am about to go into detail about the book and my review of it. You have hereby been warned! =)
So on to what I came here to write about while it is still fresh in my mind.
I finished Breaking Dawn! Here is what I posted on the boards:
So I was finally able to finish it. The verdict is in… and I personally really really LIKED it. Not saying that it was my favorite. I’m not sure at this point which is my favorite, BUT I liked this book. I liked the fact that it didn’t follow the exact same format as the other books. I liked the fact that other than the fact that everyone predicted Bella and Edward would get married and that Bella would become a vampire, nobody predicted they were going to have a baby. In turn nobody predicted that Jacob was going to imprint on said baby. I LOVED the unpredictability of the book in general. I loved that there was a section from Jacob’s point of view. I’m not at all upset that Edward didn’t get a point of view in this book because Edward is already getting a whole book from his point of view with Midnight Sun. Pretty much the only thing that I didn’t like in the book in all honesty was the name that she chose from the baby. Seriously? Renesmee? Thank goodness she was able to shorten that down to Nessie. Poor kid. LOL
Yeah… maybe some parts seemed a bit rushed. But as a whole, I think she did a good job at finishing out the story from Bella’s perspective. I’m happy that we got to experience Bella as a vampire and how absolutely opposite she was from her human self. I also liked the fact that she basically had her cake and got to eat it too in the fact that she didn’t have to leave Charlie behind. There was a whole lot more pros than cons in this book for me. So much so that I’m willing to overlook the few things that might have bugged me. =)
Overall I give it an A+.
Now to expand on some things that I didn’t mention in my post:
1) I liked the fact that she got the wedding over quickly. It was pretty predictable that this was going to happen. I was actually one of the few people that didn’t read ANY of the spoilers that were released including the spoiler that Stephenie Meyer released herself. BUT obviously this was going to happen. I think there probably could have more detail when it came to the wedding itself. Maybe some more personal vows from Edward or something? I will admit though that I totally teared up when Jacob came back and danced with Bella. =) BUT THEN when they had their little arguement… I thought it was kind of dumb how he flew off the handle. In fact I really didn’t get what it was that triggered him in spazzing out on her. But whatever…
2) The honeymoon was cute. I loved the scene that was created with where they were on the island. What a perfect setting for their honeymoon. The fact that there weren’t any details as to the sex scenes was totally expected on my part. I knew that she wouldn’t provide details when it came to the sex. It’s just not her style. Even in her book The Host which is written for the adult fiction genre, there isn’t anything like that. Anyhoo… I agree with the fact that she left something to the imagination. For those that are older and have experience in the sex department… well obviously you can get as detailed as you want with those scenes in your mind. For those that are younger and not experienced… it’s good that she has kept the intimacy of the setting in tact. She wrote this part for tactfully. Yet she did good in adding in a little humor to help along those who are imagining more details (i.e. the pillows and head board). LOL
After this part of the book, the predictability of the story went completely out the window. I didn’t see it coming that Bella was going to get pregnant. For anybody that says that they saw it coming I can’t help but think that you are completely full of it. That was NOT something that was on anybody’s radar. I also love when I come across those people that criticize this part of the story line saying that it was far-fetched. Seriously? Far-fetched? Ummm… you people do realize you are talking about a VAMPIRE NOVEL!? Stephenie Meyer went so far to redefine vampires as a whole in these books. The myths that normally apply to vampires in other books and movies obviously don’t apply to the characters in her book. Why the heck shouldn’t she get to write a storyline that includes a hybrid vampire/human. It’s her story. We are just lucky enought that she shared it with us.
3) I totally love the fact that she wrote a whole section of the book from Jacob’s perspective. I’ve always loved Jacob. No I didn’t really want him to end up with Bella. She was too irritating to be with him anyway. I wanted something different for Jacob. I loved being able to read his thoughts and the way things went when he was a wolf with the pack. i was happy for him when he was able to break away and be the leader of his own pack. People are complaining because they think that Edward should have had a portion of the book written from his point of view. Guess they didn’t realize that he’s getting a whole book for himself when Midnight Sun comes out.
4) Rosalie really irritated me in this book. I think that she’s probably my least favorite character. While I understand why Bella chose her to help in making sure nothing happened to the baby, it’s just so obvious that she’s doing it for the baby only and not Bella. She’s so selfish and such a bitch. I loved all the blonde jokes that Jacob kept throwing at her. LOL The accelerate pregnancy was quite something. A bit graphic too.
5) Renesmee. Are you friggin’ serious? She couldn’t have come up with a better name than that??? It would have been so much better if she would have just named the baby Carlie. That I could go with. But Renesmee? That is the ugliest name I’ve ever read in a book. Thank goodness she was able to shorten the name to Nessie. Even that isn’t that great of a name, but surely it’s better than RENESMEE! GAH!
6) I think the fact that Jacob imprinted on Nessie is absolutely PERFECT!! What a great storyline that can be expanded on for future books from either characters’ p
erspective. I would love to read what happens after Nessie fully matures in 6 1/2 years. I love the Stephenie Meyer left that open to expand on in the future. Because just remember… just because the series is over from Bella’s perspective doesn’t mean that we don’t have more books coming our way from the other character’s perpectives.
7) One more predictable plot in the storyline is when Bella is turned into a vampire. I personally found that it was pretty cool that she ended up being nothing like what she was expecting. She obviously was going to be beautiful. There’s no such thing as an ugly vampire. =) But the fact that she was so graceful and able to quickly transition into her new lifestyle was pretty cool in my book. If we would have had to wait around for her to get over any awkward phases after becoming a vampire, this book would have lasted FOREVER! People talk about how she was acting so much older in this book than in the others. In a way yeah I did see that, but at the same time she always did have the mothering/old soul. She took care of Renee thoughout her childhood and when she moved in with Charlie she took care of the house there too. She’s never really been your typical teen. Not to mention that she has gone through a whole lot of changing in this book. Obviously she’s not going to stay the same old Bella for the rest of her life.
8) I absolutely ♥ the fact that Bella is able to keep Charlie in her life. The thought that she was going to have to say goodbye or fake her death for him was so heartbreaking. Charlie is one of my favorite characters, and I don’t think I really realized it until this book.
9) The climax with the Volturi was pretty cool. Stephenie did well with keeping you wondering what was going to happen throughout this part of the story. Especially since Alice and Jasper completely jump ship. I could totally feel the emotions that Bella was going through when she was getting all of the paperwork for Jacob and Nessie "just in case". I like the vampire "coven tree" in the back of the book.
I can understand where people may get a sense that the book was written in a bit of a rush in some places. And I won’t dismiss the worst baby name of all time in all of literature, BUT all in all I STILL give this book an A+. She obviously can’t win ’em all, but in my opinion Stephenie Meyer has done a phenomenal job in wrapping up the series from Bella’s perspective. The series is my all time favorite series of books and Stephenie is my all time favorite author.
And with that… I’m off to bed. If I fall asleep in the next 5 minutes, I can get almost a full 7 hours of sleep in. =
Goodnight!
When I’m off work, I’m totally coming back to comment! 🙂

okay. I can’t read this entry. Im mixed about this book. I did just open it and see edward jacob and I knew then and there. How the hell did they have a baby. Last time I checked vampires couldn’t procreate? And calling Edward a vegeterian vampire, but he drinks animal blood? Not a vegetarian. I have heard alot about this book mostly bad. I’m scared to read it. I have the feeling I wont like it. Or it will be a slight letdown.

ryn: i did read this after i wrote that night and was so tired i couldn’t reply..lol but here i am now! i agree with most all of your comments on the book. and especially Rosalie..god she was a B*tch. also, the name Renesmee was so cheesy that i opt for Nessie myself, sorry Bella you should have come up with a better name. 🙂

ps i wish we could have had more detail with the first love scene. nothing over the top harlequin style, but at least a step by step of emotions and stuff. i thought it was a bit of a letdown..now maybe if they do all the movies…*thinks of Rob again* dang i better stop!

i have been reading a lot of bad reviews on BD, i feel bad now! i guess you can’t please everyone but i mainly feel for Stephenie Meyer because these books are like her children and it has to hurt. ah well, i’m sure she/and the fans will get over it and with the impending Midnight Sun (half finished i heard) we’ll be back on the Twilight bus in no time! 🙂

I really liked the book, too. Wasn’t really happy with a few things, too, but overall… goodness! 🙂 Loved that Bella came into some good abilities and didn’t have to have that “newborn” year… 🙂 Love that Bella didn’t get Jacob… seriously, he’s too good for her. His fixation with her was a bit sickening… she’s not that awesome. FIND ME, JACOB! lol Seriously, glad for the quick wedding, too. But Renesmee? I would much rather be a sea monster than something that sounds like a disease… 🙂 As for her acting older… well YEAH. She’s a mother, a wife, and a vampire. I think she needs to be a little older acting. She’s 18 and was heading to Dartmouth. Adult fits! P.S. The Volturi… Someone needs to hand Caius’ a** to him. Honestly. Okay… I’ll shut up now! LOL

I’m back at last! I LOVED the humour in the honeymoon (I absolutley cracked up about the pillows and the headboard), and the sweetness surrounding the entire scenario. Would I have liked more detail? Definitely! But I wasn’t expecting it. I thought the accelerated pregnancy was pretty cool but I just didn’t feel any bond between Bella and Renesmee (Edward and Rensemee too). And I HATED Rosie. Shegot better in the third book, but then went completely off the deep end! Oh, and as for Renesmee, I seriously thought Edward was going to say NO to that name. AWFUL! I liked reading about Jacob’s pack and from his perspective, but it got a bit long. I was also totally hoping there’d be a sneak peek from Edward’s perspective, lol, but that was straight hope and no belief. It was kind of fun reading about Bella being a vampire, but it seemed rushed and not as detailed as I was expecting–especially when Bella was discovering her running/hunting skills. And I got a kick out of Charlie’s reaction–don’t ask/don’t tell. I didn’t like the climax, though. It seemed like such a plateau. Nothing really happened, and it wasn’t tense for me. I can’t wait for MS, and I hope there’s someth
