New Challenge

It’s been a few days since my last entry, but hey… at least it hasn’t been nearly a year like my last huge break.  Right?  LOL  Things are going as well as could be expected I guess.  There’s always something to think about… stresses to deal with.  Right now, things are calm for the most part.  Kind of like a calm before the storm feeling.  Things at work are about to get a whole lot busier which I’m not looking forward to in the least.  I just pray that this busy season goes by fast and is as painless as possible.

My main concern with busy season is not losing my momentum with Cross Fit.  As I will likely be working Saturdays, that means I will not longer be able to go to Saturday morning workouts until after busy season.  I’m assuming that I’ll be on the early schedule again as that is what I requested, so I pray that I’ll be able to get back to San Jose in time to make it to the 5:30 class on Mondays and Fridays, and I should still be able to make it to the 6:30 class on Wednesdays, so that will still take care of 3 workouts a week.  I’m going to miss my Saturday workouts a lot though.  Oh well… I’m determined to get in 3 CF workouts a week, and have even considered volunteering for a late shift this busy season so that I can go to CF in the morning instead.  Time will tell how things will work out.

The Step Up Challenge that I started at work finally ends tomorrow.  Thank goodness.  To be honest, I haven’t been even bothering with the challenge for over a week now.  I climb one to two flights a day.  LOL  I was finding that my knees were suffering from all the stair climbing which in turn was affecting my performance at CF.  I’d rather be able to do the CF workouts to the best of my ability than to worry about climbing stairs.  Pretty much everybody else has all but quit too.  I think the challenge may have lasted too long resulting in people losing their motivation.

Side note: Why must people insist on arguing with me on internal GROUP chat when they are wrong and notorious for getting on the nerves of everybody else in the department?  Does he really think that he is going to come out on top in this argument?  Frickin’ douche!  So that wasn’t exactly the most mature thing to say, but good grief!  This kid drives everybody nuts including me! //end side note

I’m now participating in another wellness challenge, this one with my pastor’s wife, my friend Gina, and another gal.  This challenge is a little more about a well rounded lifestyle including exercise, diet, and personal goals for our "rule of life".  Your rule of life is basically the things that you incorporate into your life that nurture your soul.  Things that you enjoy doing, but tend to put aside or don’t get to as often as you’d like.  The goal for the challenge is to incorporate some of these things into our daily lives to make them habits since they tend to mean a lot and nurture us inwardly.

We’re in our second week of the challenge, and the things that I struggled with doing the most were those things that I like to do but never take the time to do.  My list of personal goals are:

Complete a yoga workout on non-CF days
Go to Cross Fit  (I don’t struggle with this one at all though)
Journal about my day
Read for Bible Study
Go the entire day without arguing with Jacob (Didn’t do so well last week on this one, but doing much better this week)
Make a card and send/give it to somebody
Listen to an online sermon and take notes
Call a friend/family member for a chat

The first five items on the list can be done on a daily basis and are worth one point each when completed.  The last three items are work three points each and the goal is to complete them once a week.  You would think that some of these would be easy, but surprisingly I still struggle with them.  Such as journal about my day.  That could be journal in my paper journal or here on OD.  I log in here basically EVERY DAY during the week, yet more times than not, I simply read my faves and then log out.  It’s not really even a time constraint thing that prevents me from doing the things on the list.  I’m so easily distracted and get sucked into things that don’t matter before I take the time to actually do the things that do matter to me.  Like logging into Facebook throughout the day before taking the time to write here on OD.  Or I could sit here an listen to a sermon on sermonaudio.net and jot down some notes during my downtime, but instead I play a game on Facebook or do some other mindless activity.

I rarely ever read for our weekly Bible study these days, but I know that when I do, I enjoy it.  So why don’t I just do it?  I swear sometimes I have the attention span of a gnat!  I haven’t made a card in MONTHS!  I think the last time I sat down and created any cards was before Christmas when I made everybody’s Christmas cards.  I still read all of the card making blogs and check out what people are creating to get ideas, but when it comes down to sitting down and actually creating my own cards… I don’t do it!  Well I have a good reason take the time to do that now.  Especially with Mother’s Day coming up next week.  I’m going to make a FABULOUS card for my mom, and get it sent out.  Maybe I’ll get started on that tonight so it can count for this week’s points, and then I’ll make another one to send to my Grandma for next week’s points.  I suppose while I’m at it, I could make a card for MIL too.  Anywho… wish me luck on the challenge!

Now on to the next update… I’m happy to report that after living in California for nearly 7 years, I have FINALLY gone to the DMV and gotten my California drivers license.  LOL  How sad as that?  Oh yeah… and while I was at it, I decide I might as well change my last name to my married name after being married for nearly 5 years.  LMAO  If you look up the definition of procrastinator in the dictionary, you are liable to see my picture.  It was quite the ordeal to take care of all of this too.  My Nebraska license is set to expire on my birthday next month, so I no longer really had a choice in regards to the getting a California license.

Luckily I had all the documents that I needed to go to DMV to take the test and get my license.  Once I got there though, the DMV person told me that I would have to change my name with Social Security first if I wanted to change my name on my license.  *sigh*  Okay… so we head to Social Security only to find out that since it has been more than 2 years since we have been married, I have to show some sort of ID with my married name and then an ID with my maiden name, and THEN they would be able to change my name for my Social Security card.  In order to do that, they sent me BACK to the DMV and told me specific instructions that I was supposed to tell the DMV to get them to change my name there first.  BACK to the DMV we go.  An

d I’ll give it to the DMV for then TRYING to do what the Social Security office was saying needed to be done, but they hit a wall in their system and couldn’t go forward because my name wasn’t matching up in the system since it hadn’t been changed with Social Security.  At that point, a supervisor at the DMV called the Social Security office to find out what could be done.  She was able to talk to somebody who know how the heck to do their job and was able to confirm that I had enough documentation for Social Security to be able to do the name change in their system.  Oh, but once I go to Social Security to do the name change, it will take 24 hours to update in their system, so come back on Monday to finish everything with the DMV.  GREAT!!!  So BACK to the Social Security office we go.  I ask for Ruby when I walk in the door.  Ruby takes care of my name change within 10 minutes and asks me who told me they couldn’t do it the first time I was there.  It just so happened to be the girl in the next window, so I quietly told her, "That girl." To which she kinda rolled her eyes and shook her head.  At least my name was finally changed with the federal government though right?  After 4 hours of running around that is.

On Monday, I left work at lunch so that I could head back to the DMV and finish up the whole ordeal.  Thank goodness I didn’t have to wait in line though.  The supervisor from Friday gave me special instructions to go straight to a particular window at which point I was immediately assisted.  Name was changed in their system, and I headed over to get my picture taken (which of course turned out HORRIBLE) and take the test.  I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I only missed ONE question on the test.  Wouldn’t that have sucked if after all of that, that I ended up failing the actual test?  LOL  Thank goodness I didn’t though.  It’s all over, and I should have my new license within the next 6-8 weeks, and my new social security card should be here within the next 2 weeks.

We had an awesome Easter weekend! We kicked off the weekend on Friday after the whole debacle with the DMV and Social Security by going to a movie and then to Good Friday service at one of the churches that our church has helped plant.  It was an incredibly touching service with amazing music!

Saturday started with a Cross Fit workout, and Saturday afternoon was spent at a bbq with our Cross Fit family.  It was so much fun to hang out and kind of get to know some of the people.  They played a flag football game that was highly entertaining to watch with some of the people’s little kids out playing in the game.  Lots of good food, some of it good for you, some of it not so good for you.  It was really a lot of fun though!

Sunday, we headed to church for a great Easter service and sermon by Pastor Kevin.  That was followed by an afternoon spent with Jacob’s dad and cousins (the side of the family that I like… LOL).  We celebrated the first communion for his cousin’s kids which included some awesome food catered by this mobile taqueria.  I had tacos, a quesadilla, a hot dog, nacho chips with guacamole, nacho chips with queso, and tres leche cake.  WAY OFF THE DIET!  LOL  But it was fabulous, and when all was said and done, totally worth it considering after all the not so good for me food only resulted in about a one pound gain.  Not bad at all, and I’ll be able to get that right back off probably this week.

Well this has resulted in a doozy of an entry.  LOL  Yay for getting a point for my team though.  Oh yeah… we are doing the wellness challenge as teams.  I’m teamed up with Gina, and the other team is Luann and Elaine.  I’m hoping to keep this ball rolling of writing more consistently, whether here or in my paper journal, so expect to see more of me!
