Just Gotta Love It When I Eff Up

Our finances have been jacked up for quite some time now.  We can’t ever seem to get on track.  I don’t know why.  We just can’t.  Anytime we think we might be going in the right direction, something happens and we are right back where we started.  That and our lack of financial discipline makes for just one big hole that we can’t seem to dig ourselves out of.  One of these days though.  I’m bound and determined to be more financially stable.

We are trying to get our budget under control for the next few weeks so that we can work it out to drive to Nebraska.  I really really REALLY want Jacob to go with me.  Like I said before, it used to not bother me if he didn’t go back with me for a visit, but for some reason this time I just want him to be there.  That’s a good thing I guess.  While things aren’t perfect all the time with us, we do get along much better than we used to.  I’m much more tolerant than I used to be, and I believe he is as well.  Most of the time we work pretty well together.  You know that part on the Sex and The City movie where they ask Charlotte if she’s happy in her marriage everyday?  She says that she may not be happy 100% of the time, but at some point in every day, she is happy in her marriage.  Well that’s where I’m at now.  =)

Okay… back to what I was wanting to write about.  So Jacob got paid today.  I had tried to figure out what our finances were going to look like for the next week after we have rent paid.  We are going to on a tight budget, but nothing that we can’t handle.  Well, just a little bit ago Jacob sat down to count the money and see where we are at right now, and come to find out that we are ahead a considerable amount more than I had counted in my head.  Now that’s the kind of eff up that I love.  LOL

So basically what we need to do is get insurance for the car in our name instead of continuing to pay for the insurance policy that Jacob’s mom had.  We are also going to have to get the break pads changed on the car and a general tune up.  I’m hoping that will cost less than $250.  I figure that it will cost about $500 (give or take a few $) in gas from California to Nebraska and back.  Just a little bit of spending money along the way and a few $ for emergencies and we should be alright.  Jacob is going to talk to his boss on Monday to see if he can talk him into giving him hours for the next two full weeks.  Since he’s already going to be gone the week of Thanksgiving and the following Monday, I don’t see why they can’t compromise and allow him to work.

I’ll get paid my regular pay at the end of month and in addition will be getting my quarterly bonus sometime before the end of the month.  I really think we will be able to pull this off.  I pray that it all works out accordingly and that we can stay disciplined in the handling of our money.  We’ll have to make the final decision on whether or not we are driving out to Nebraska together or if I’ll be flying out alone by next weekend.  *sigh*  Decisions decisions.

I also need to get on the ball and get the scrapbook finished for mom’s birthday.  I pretty much have the first section of her life done.  Now I need to get started on the section that will include my childhood and teen years.  After that of course will be the last 10 years.  Vicki called me today and said that she is sending me another package of pictures which I should hopefully get by Wednesday of next week.  That will give me a very limited number of days to finish the pages and get them organized accordingly.  I decided to order the bound book that is offered on the scrapblog site instead of printing out the pages myself.  It’s just going to be easier and all in all probably more cost effective.  I may just have the book shipped directly to my aunt when I order it though that way I don’t have to worry about it getting here in time before we leave.  *another sigh*  So much to do, not nearly enough time.

Oh yeah… We got our wedding DVD in the mail today.  =)  We sat and watched it as soon as I got home from work.  It was fun to watch that day all over again.  The videographer did a pretty good job with it.  Not sure if it was really worth the $750 that he was originally charging me, so I’m glad that my dad was able to talk him down on the price.  But I am glad to finally have the video.  I will definitely cherish it, and I can’t wait to show it to the people in Jacob’s family who weren’t there.

I realized today that I missed my entry yesterday.  =  Guess it’s a good thing that I didn’t officially commit to the NoJoMo thing.  Maybe I’ll double post one of these days.  Actually I should just double post for the next two weeks that way when the week of Thanksgiving rolls around, I won’t have to worry that I missed however many days of entries.  =)

So that’s that.  I’m out.

Laters,
JamieLynn =)
