“Drill, baby, drill”: the problem with prioritizing greed, economic growth, and capitalism over Earth.
How is it that the already rich have the easiest time placing money above anything else? Have they not a shred of humanity? The absolute greediest person I can think of right now is the nation’s favorite hollow-headed bumpkin, Donald J Trump. How can he look at the fading glaciers, starving polar bears, and the flowers blooming in Antarctica and tell us, “drill, baby, drill”? How did people cheer? My stomach and heart dropped like a bird shot from the sky while watching his speech; the apathy towards our own planet, whose veins are already spilling open, was sickening. Will national parks still be around for my grandchildren, or will they all have withered and vanished into the background of factories and hazy gray skies? Will my grandchildren see rushing waterfalls and lush forests, or will those be legends of the distant past? Will they walk to school in a smog, when we had fresh air to breath and clean water to drink? Pretty soon, the only leafy greens left in America will be the ones lining Trump’s and Musk’s pockets. Money will overtake the dandelions that once sprouted in the cracks of the pavement.
