Inservice, Day 1
Yesterday was the first day of work at the new job. But it really wasn’t. Any K-12 teacher knows that the first week or two back at work is all professional development, curriculum work, training, and other Inservice activities; yesterday was no different. The majority of the day was a bus tour around town. We visited a number of businesses along the way and got an informative history lesson of the town. Or rather, it would have been if I had not been born and raised here.
The highlight of the day was right after lunch. There were door prize baskets, and I won one! It’s not anything super amazing or great, but the fact that I was only one of three winners really made me happy ( there were about 75 new teachers, so the odds of winning were slim). I also got my picture taken as the superintendent handed me the basket, which was posted on the District Facebook page. It is super flattering, by the way.
After that, we all received our technology and got it set up. That was a chaotic event. 75 people all trying to set up two computers each, changing passwords, downloading authentication apps, and syncing everything all at the same time was a bit of a nightmare. But it all worked out in the end.
It felt like a super long day, even though it was a standard 8-hour day. It always feels that way after summer break, though.
Today is more new-teacher work. I get to sit through benefits presentations and blood born pathogen videos for 8 hours today… I really can’t wait until September 1, when I get students back in a classroom and get to the fun work of teaching them
