That Would Confuse
Don’t
bend back my hand
stopping me from holding on
drop it
nothing seems to stick
and how would you know
if you’ve never been here
here
I mean here
(points to chest)
because I have
and it’s a little different
to most other things
my blue coat
in only blue
and you never liked that colour
on me
you never liked
me
in that colour
I think you’d look smart
or
smarter
where are you up to?
are you nearer then before
I’ve waited for a while
by this faded street sign
knowing you’ll need to pass sooner or
later
I’ll need another layer
to keep out the chill
I’ll need another street lamp
somthing to lean against
something for a little more
a little more what?
time seems to be slipping by
as I kick at
roadside debris
and sound out words
rolling them around my mouth
‘oh’
the light has gone out
now all I see is an exit sign
glowing in the distance
I narrow my eyes
she had never asked that before
her genim dress
her mary-janes
a small twinkle coming from somewhere
you might reconise it
you might ask for more
but I would have to
point you in another direction
and that would confuse
the best of us
the rest of us
I’m still here
(here)
waiting for you to catch up
