Joanna Newsom

Well, Last Saturday I went to a Joanna Newsom concert and it was FANTASTIC!!!!! I LOVED it! I had to go by myself because I couldn’t get tickets for anyone else to come with me, so that was the first time I’ve been to anything like a show/concert/movie by myself… which was fine but it would have been nice to have someone there to talk about it with and compare notes.

Anyhow, I only managed to get my ticket a week before the show even though they had said that it was sold out one became avaible but it was a "standing" ticketwhich kinda sucked cause I hate to stand and watch shows cause I get tired and fidgity but I bought it anyway…

So I get there early so I can get near the front of the queue to go in and did just that… there were maybe 10 people infront of me but being by myself I wasn’t quite sure if I was in the right place. Then I heard a girl who was by herself talking to the person infront of her and saying that she had come to the show 2 nights earlier and it was wonderful etc. etc. so I asked her what standing ment and she said that as far as she could tell there wasn’t any standing at all, everone got seats and it didn’t matter, I could just go in with all the tickets that say general admission. So I’m heaps chuffed with myself cause I’m near the front of the queue, I can hear Joanna tuning, and warming up her harp which was GREAT! then after like half an hour of sitting there a member of the staff started walking up and down the line shouting out that the dorrs would open in about 45 mins and that this line was for general admission tickets only, if you’re ticket says standing or was one of the cheaper tickets avaible on the day of the show (I had paid full price for mine) then the line was on the other side…

So I got up and left the line trying not to draw attention to myself and walked around and tried to find this "other line". after circling the tent (The Famous Speigeltent) and not finding the line I then went up to the ticket booth and asked where the line for the standing tickets is and she looks at the door and says "It’s normally there (pointing to the other side of the door) but you’ll go in after general admission so you may as well take a seat."

I take a seat, feeling forlorn, and wait for the time to pass… when they start letting in the generall admission people I went up to the door and asked where the standing tickets line up and she says "just wait there" pointing me off to the side. and I wait what seems like forever as everyone else went in. when they finally finish all these random people just standing around rush up to the door before me and ask "Is there room for late commers?" and they reply "there will be but standing tickets first" so it dawned on me that I paid full price ($56) for the same entry rights as some cheap ass losers who just stood outside drinking wine untill they were let in.

But I finally get inside and the middle of the tent is all chairs and pretty full up and the outside has booths with seats which is where  the "standing" people and the freeloaders sit. So I  start looking for a seat with a decent view and the woman comes up to me and asks "are you single?" I figure she must be talking about am I here by myself so I say yes and she says "follow me" I was thinking, she’d very forward but then she turns back to me and says "we’ve got a seat" and point me to a seat that only 8 or so rows back but with a perfect view, on the right and side so you can see her face when she plays and not just the harp. so In the end, after all that, I got a really good seat and Loved the show! she was only spose to play for an hour but she was on for an hour and a half which was great!
