Thanksgiving Break
Well, my Thanksgiving break from school is about over. Tomorrow morning I have to face reality and head back to work. It’s always so hard to head back after having a few days off. I had such a great time these past few days with family and everything – it was a great break!
Wednesday night Trent and I went over to his parents’ house since we typically do spend Wednesday nights with them. His mom and I made some fruit cups for the Thanksgiving meal, and then we watched Hitch on TV. His sister got there a little after midnight, so we stayed to say hello and then headed home. His mom wanted us to stay there, too, but my idea of fun is not waking up on Thanksgiving morning with 7 people in the house and one bathroom to get ready. So, we came home where we could be in our own space! That’s what is nice about living fairly close.
Thanksgiving morning we did some things around the house and then headed to Trent’s grandparents farm house. All of his dad’s side of the family was there, so it was nice to see all of them. Quite a few of them went hunting, but I stayed behind and tried to help out some in the kitchen. We had an awesome meal! Trent’s grandpa didn’t really feel well the entire holiday weekend and had just gotten out of the hospital Wednesday night, but at least we all got to be together with him. Thanksgiving evening we headed over another town to visit my family. I got to spoil my nephew, which is always fun! My sister-in-law and I helped my aunt hang up some pictures to decorate their new home, which was fun. It was a relaxing evening.
Friday morning I was up at 3:45 to get ready to head to Wal-Mart for the day after Thanksgiving sale. My mother-in-law and one of Trent’s cousins came over, and we all were at Wal-Mart a little before 5:00. We did some shopping there and then went to a few other stores. We ate breakfast at McDonald’s and then headed out to the farm to help Trent’s grandparents pack up and move (they’re moving to town due to his grandpa having cancer; that way they are in town if something happens to him and his wife is all alone). I was going to go shopping, but the great daughter-in-law in me decided to hang back and help the family with the move. We did get a lot done, and his grandparents did really well watching their things get packed up and leaving the home they’re known for like the last 50 years.
Friday afternoon we test drove a new car, which I think we’re getting. Trent’s car really does need replaced, and we found an older vehicle that is fairly cheap and only has 41,000 miles on it. We’re pretty excited! Then that night we headed over to my parents’ house to see my brother and his wife one last time before they left Saturday morning. Again, it was fun to hold and cuddle baby Ryan!
Saturday morning I got up and went shopping with my mom. We had a great day together! I love it when the two of us can go and spend a day together with little time limits; it’s just so enjoyable. I was a bit frustrated because I couldn’t seem to find many of the gifts that I really wanted to get, but that’s all right. I did get some more gifts, so I can cross a few more people off my list! 🙂 Last night we met up with Trent’s family for supper at his grandparents’ house and then went bowling.
Busy, busy, busy! Today we said good-bye to Trent’s sister, headed to church, and then I got to work getting ready for the holiday open house I had tonight for BeautiControl products that I sell. Now I sit here knowing that I need to do at least one load of laundry, but I really just want to go to bed. I crammed so much into the past few days that I really didn’t get a lot of sleep. I know that’ll make for a long and tiring day tomorrow, but that’s all right. I guess that’s what Thanksgiving is about – spending time with those we love and cherish.
Trent’s grandpa heads back to Houston tomorrow to meet with his cancer doctors, which I am very glad for. He hasn’t been feeling well lately and has been struggling with some infections. The doctors here can’t seem to do much for him, so I’m hoping that he’ll get some answers this week and possibly know what needs to be done to help him to feel better. I hate watching him not feel well. It makes me get all teary-eyed to just think of the cancer getting worse and us facing other issues down the road.
Well, I think I’m rambled enough. I am off to do a load of laundry. For some reason, my husband thinks he shouldn’t wear dirty jeans — he wants them clean, instead. Sheesh! 😉 I am off to do a few things before heading to bed. I hope you all had a happy and blessed Thanksgiving!
Sounds like it was a busy, yet productive weekend! I’m glad that you had a good one! 🙂
