Hospital Days & Nights
That pretty much sums up most of what I have been doing since last week Wednesday. Trent’s grandfather was put in the hospital last week because he couldn’t keep any food down and was getting weaker and weaker. His grandparents were scheduled to fly to Houston yesterday so that they could begin an experimental drug with him for his cancer, but he is too weak to make the trip. I’m afraid that the end is nearing. The cancer has pretty much consumed his liver, and it is now bleeding into the stomach. That then causes an infection in the stomach which is extremely painful for him. Right now they are just trying to regulate the pain so that he can be as comfortable as possible. The meds kind of make him loopy, but at least he’s not in as much pain. All we can do now is visit him and continue to make memories with him. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as we face some trying times.
This is just like watching my own grandfather suffer because this is the closest I have ever had to a real grandfather. One of my grandfathers passed away long before I was ever born, and the other one hated children and never had anything to do with me. So, it has been such a blessing to have Trent’s grandfather to call my own the past four years.
Other than that, we haven’t done a whole lot. Trent’s sister came home this weekend, so we were able to spend some time with her and our nephew. Some of his other relatives were here, also. Others are headed in on Wednesday, so we’ll be keeping busy with work and family. In fact, we’re getting ready to head out of town to visit the hospital again tonight. That’s where my mind and heart are right now, so we might as well be there, too. I manage to take a few things with me that I need to get done sot hat I don’t fall too far behind with my teaching and graduate class items. I am having such a hard time getting back into the homework routine. Life was so much less stressful over the break when I didn’t have to worry about grad homework and class stuff. I guess I have to keep in mind that I will be done a year from May. That is what has to keep me going!
Well, I better get going. Trent just got home, so I’m sure he’s ready to go! We had a Kansas Day celebration all day in school today, so I am exhausted! Anything that is out of the ordinary in school seems to zap me! I dressed up as a cowgirl, so I am lookin’ cute! 😉
*hugs* Your family is in my thoughts and prayers…

I’m sorry to hear about Trent’s dad. I quizzed the kiddos about Kansas’ state reptile today and gave them a ‘treat’ if they answered it right… n
