"Describe your favorite person in your life."

For once I actually have something to write about for this sort of topic!

Actually, he’s been my favorite person for a rather long time. Over two years now, I just never said anything to him, or tried not to dwell on it too much because for a long time I didn’t believe anything could ever happen between us. It was a situation where I really believed he was… beyond me… if that makes sense.

The very first time I had interaction with Andy was in an IKEA parking lot like three days after I had moved to San Diego. I had never met him officially and didn’t even really know how he was related to my family beyond that he was someone’s friend. My mom had volunteered her truck to help him move two couches he’d bought for his apartment. I was sitting in the passengers seat while they were being loaded, and Andy needed to get tie downs or something from the back seat. He opened the door, looked at me, and said, "Hi Tilly!" then closed the door again. He’d completely mistaken me for my younger sister and for some reason it made me laugh.

That was in July of 2010. We’ve been dating now for just a little over a month. It took us two years to admit we wanted to try being in a relationship.

Andy is, for lack of a better word, goofy. Even in my own mind that’s how I describe him. It’s that sort of goofy that is attractive though. I couldn’t imagine the person he would be if he didn’t have all those funny little quirks. Sometimes he’ll start talking to himself or singing or dancing for no reason. He smiles all the time about everything, but will refuse to tell me what it’s about when I ask. He’s quiet sometimes, but I’m beginning to think that’s just part of his nature. He doesn’t need to be going places or doing things or having conversations all the time, but he likes to and I’m always amazed at how easily he seems to talk to other people and then a moment later do something really nerdy that makes people who don’t know him uncomfortable (in the way that nerds tend to make non-nerds uncomfortable haha).

He’s maybe three or four inches taller than me, dark brown hair and light brown eyes. He’s slender like me, I think he weighs about thirty pounds more than I do, and wears glasses and plaid button up shirts (seriously, he has twenty plaid shirts at least). He smells like Axe mixed with work and has a passion for lighting technology (he’s a lighting specialist for Sea World). His hands are rough because he works with them all the time, he’s got an allergy to cats, but deals with it because I think almost everyone he knows owns cats. He hates most green vegetables, and watching surgery on TV makes him uncomfortable, but he doesn’t mind gory movies.

He doesn’t want kids. We are on exactly the same page where this is concerned. He wants to travel and go places and have adventures. We are on exactly the same page where this is concerned. He wants to leave San Diego at some point to try new things.

I think we both understand, at this early point in our relationship anyway, that we would have to deal with parting ways if moving becomes an opportunity for either of us in the near future. We both know we haven’t been together long enough to warrant making a mutual move. We touched on this once in conversation over dinner. It was awkward and surprisingly painful and we changed the subject quickly.

He snores because he likes to sleep on his back. It’s almost the only time I see him without his glasses for a long period of time. It’s different and I often wonder how much it would throw me off if he ever started wearing contacts. I don’t want him to start wearing contacts.

I wish I could fall asleep as quickly as he does too! My god. He sleeps lightly, it’s very easy to wake him up, but in moments he’s back to sleep again. I’ve never met anyone who falls asleep as quickly as he does. He can sleep forever too. This is mostly due to the fact that he doesn’t have a set schedule and is prone to working crazy hours. It’s not uncommon for him to work until very late at night or until very early in the morning. Sometimes he’ll sleep until one or two in the afternoon to compensate, in which case I’ll spend that time ogling him or studying the map of Ireland above the bed.

He loves Mountain Dew. He has an affinity for history, especially in regards to World War II. He likes Norse mythology and Top Gear (the UK version, of course), but I have a hard time getting him to have Doctor Who marathons with me. He can’t take Doctor Who in large doses, but will watch the Lord of the Rings, extended version, from start to finish if he has the time. Same with the original Star Wars trilogy. Both of these I will gladly sit through with him though.

He’s wonderful. He’s perfect for me. He’s everything I was looking for and everything that I needed. I am very lucky.
