Fits and Starts

Andy and I couldn’t do anything for Valentine’s Day because he was working until 11:30pm for the special event at Sea World. I thought maybe he would stop by Dustin and Lisa’s for a bit afterward because their friend Devon was in town just for the night, but he didn’t, so either it was a really bad day, or he was so beat he didn’t care, or both. I did send him as mushy a text message as I could manage without feeling like a complete idiot, but I have to admit I was really bummed we couldn’t spend the day together.

But our family friend Rachel did come in to town unexpectedly because her husband had to travel to the east coast for work. It was so nice to see her again! She went to Dustin’s show with us last night and hung out for a bit at the house afterward. I’m really glad she was able to come down. She doesn’t like living in San Francisco because she lives in a really rich yuppy part of the city, and being a girl with numerous tattoos and piercings and a very distinctive personality, they aren’t really her kind of people. I feel really bad for her, but her husband works for the Navy so she didn’t really have a choice.

So yeah. This week hasn’t been too bad. I had Wednesday off instead of Thursday and I spent it mostly relaxing and thinking about my story. I’m getting that overpowering urge to write again, which is a really nice feeling after so long. The map needs to be redrawn because I’ve written out a timeline. Finally. I have an actual progression of the main events! I’ve finished what I hope will be contained in the first volume and have started the outline for the second, in which everything goes to hell and the good guys lose the war. I work on it at work almost every day now, so I make a good deal of progress on a regular basis.

I’ve also started reading the Wheel of Time series again. Finally took the plunge. I was hesitant about it for a really long time because it’s a huge time commitment. I’ll probably be reading the series non stop for a year or more and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to follow one story for that long again.

I am now, and I’m so glad I decided to do it. It’s like seeing old friends for the first time in ages! I had forgotten what it was like to really love storybook characters, and these are some of the best I’ve ever followed. It choked me up a little bit. I hadn’t realized how much I missed them, and certainly not how much I remembered about the story. I’m so excited now! My best friend Colin is getting into the series now too because his new girlfriend is IN LOVE with them, so he ordered the first book and we are going to have an online/text message book club about it.

I am also going to start ordering the hardcover copies of them.  I mostly paperbacks, and I’ve had them for so long that one of two of them are beginning to fall apart.

Hardcovers look better on the bookshelf anyway.

…20 minutes later…

So that’s all taken care of…. I just got back from my break and ordered the hard cover… It was weird. I had to go to Ebay to get the version I wanted (from 1990, with the old artwork. Barns and Noble and Amazon didn’t have it and I couldn’t find it at my favorite Fantasy/Science Fiction book store either).

I hate using Ebay. I just don’t like it. It feels clunky to me. I don’t like the way it’s set up. But whatever. I got what I wanted so hopefully it will get here soon. It didn’t let me choose a shipping option for some reason. I dunno. I don’t like Ebay.

Anway. So I guess the whale at Sea World DID have it’s calf yesterday! But it was early in the morning, so I am not sure if Andy was too effected by it. I hope not. He was worried it was going to go into labor at like 9pm, which which case he most likely would have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

I am hoping to take a flight lesson some time next week if possible. If not, I at least want to buy a log book and the CDs for the ground school. We’ll see. Depending on how things go between now and the fall, Miramar Community College offers all kinds of classes for people who want to be pilots. I’m pretty sure I can get the ground school through them as well as several other things that I haven’t had time to look in to just yet. I’ll be doing that today as well.

And that’s about it. I feel like it’s been quite a while since I’ve put down a proper entry.

I think paperback books display pretty well, plus you fit more on the shelf and they are more portable.

Not fond of Ebay myself. Try Craig’s list.

Piloting will be an excellent, thrilling career! Yes, yes, I hope you keep on with this. I can relate to the “seeing old friends” aspect of books and stories. I wish I could write letters to all my favourite characters to ask what they’re up to now?
