One Year to Adulthood!

If you’d like to read about he Dru Sjodin case this is the link to the articles in the local newspaper

Today my big son turned 17! Yikes!

I subscribe to American Greetings so I print all the cards that I send. I found one that said “Sweet 16” so I changed that to “You’re 17” and I changed the inside saying to “Boy, you make me feel old!”

He got the biggest kick out of that. He just kept laughing which made me feel good.

I made an appointment with him about three weeks ago so that I could take him out for his birthday. I am surprised that the plan did not fall through.

I gave him the choice of dining places and the time. He chose Royal Fork for brunch. That works for everyone so he made a good decision. After we ate Dick got a phone call from a buddy to help him take his fish house off the lake because the lake is thawing.

I would just like to scream but it would do me no good. I have been trying the reverse psychology thing and telling him to go ~ every time one of his friends call him to do something. Maybe some day he will get it!

Derek and Tyler took off to the arcade. I actually did not know where they went but I had a pretty good idea when I turned around and they were gone. Bad idea because I can not tell my kids no when it comes to video games. “Okay, one dollar each but I had to ask Dick for a dollar because I only had three dollars.” They were playing games so I told each of them stay here, I am going outside to smoke, I will be right back, do not leave here.

I went out smoked half of a cigarette and went back in. I was not gone for five minutes. When I came back in Tyler was sitting on the bench with Dick. He left the arcade. It is good that he was sitting with Dick but I told him not to leave the arcade. So he did not follow my instructions and got grounded. I walked away from the two of them and went back into the arcade. Tyler comes in with a dollar for himself, a dollar for Alexa, and a dollar for Nadine. Then a bit later Dick came in and asked if he had given the girls their dollar. That is when I got mad because I was watching Derek doing the Dancing Revolution thing and I hid it from him that they each got another dollar and Dick did not give him one. Dick told me that he only had three ones.

I did not want to start a confrontation in public so I told him yes the girls got their dollars and left it at that. I wanted to tell him that if he did not have enough to go around he should not have given anyone any money.

That is when I dug out my twenty. I did not plan on spending it at the arcade but I split it between all four kids. When they were done with their tokens and done cashing in their tickets we left. Derek had plans to go to the movies with some friends so I took him to Todd’s and we came home. The kids wanted to do something other than just come home but I explained to them that I work all week and I have to stand the entire time I am at work and that I would like to rest. Since there was no place to sit in the arcade I really needed to rest.

My stupid hip has been bothering me for quite some time but I am not going to the chiropractor for it because that is only a quick and short-lived fix. I really need to make an appointment to see a doctor about it. Maybe get some X-rays taken to see if there is damage that can be taken care of other than a visit to the chiropractor. Bum hip makes for standing different so my legs, knees, and back all ache. And my knees are still sore from scrubbing the floor ~ I even have a blister on my knee!

I am not even that old yet. I am too young to feel this damn old! I think a good check-up is in order for me.
