Looking for a New Job?

If you’d like to read about he Dru Sjodin case this is the link to the articles in the local newspaper

When I got home from work last night I was so upset. I thought that I would be looking for a new job. There are counterfeit checks being passed all over town. I took one of these checks. With the counseling statement already in my file because of taking bad checks this could be the end of my job. I could not remember if I followed the policies and procedures to the T!

It is so weird because I remember the incident. A gal wrote a check and I did try to run it ~ meaning we have a machine that is hooked up to a phone line that tells us if the check writer has unpaid NSF checks, or if it is a closed account. If you have unpaid NSF checks and try to write me a check it tells me how many unpaid checks there are and the total amount of the checks. (So that is what I mean by running a check ~ if you didn’t know that.)

I can not remember if I checked her ID. I know that I tried to run the check but got “key in micro” message. I know that I was busy at the time. Did I key in the micro or did I just take the check? Do I recognize this person? Did I check her ID?

I forgot about it today until the Dirty Girl IM’d me. She told me that I would have gotten a code until Thursday because that is when the bank closed the account.

Talk about shitting brick?

Our policies are black and white with no gray area! Run the check, get a code. Check ID and write the information on the check. Then if it goes bad your ass is covered!

I couldn’t stand it any longer so I called the office. I told M that I just need to know if I need to be looking for a job. I guess he did not understand what I was saying. So I told him with the counseling statement already in my file from the last check incident that this could mean my job. It finally came out the he had a copy of the front and the back of the check.

“Oh, does it have a code?”

“Yes, it has a code.”

……..breathing a bit easier

“It also has a birth date written on the check.”

“So I did check the ID too.”

“It looks like it.”

………breathing way easier now

So I did follow the proper policies and procedures.
I have always said that I would rather be fired than quit but being fired for this would make it very hard for me to get a job other than an office job that does not deal with money handling. Repeat offender! Can’t follow policies and procedures just does not sound good.

Sometimes it is hard…if I am busy I don’t always check the ID especially if I recognize the person. Dumb!

So as of today I still have my job and will not be fired because I took a counterfeit check.

For now I must hop in the shower so that I can go pick up the party guests! I did not plan on going to town before the movie but I am going!

(Excuse the typos ~ no spell check!)
