Faded Blue Bumpers

This will be quick because I will be off and running in less than 30 minutes. I have a CGAND meeting this morning all day today. Registration starts at 8:30 ~ whoever planned this did not think of the gaming people who work mainly late nights. At least I got to go to bed early last night ~ I could have gone to bed even earlier if I didn’t have to watch two hours of Cops.

Dick had an uneventful birthday. No cake, no presents! We did go out for supper at Royal Fork. He chose Royal Fork so that Nadine could pick up her prize for winning the coloring contest from the last time we were there. See he can be thoughtful at times! Nadine got a stuffed animal that makes noise. She had the choice between a cow, an elephant, and a tiger. She chose the tiger. I think that Alexa could have won because she does such a nice job of coloring but she is an over-achiever. She also colored a scene on the back of the coloring page and wrote “I want to win!” I tried to explain to her not to mess up her paper but she wouldn’t listen. So that is the way it goes.

We went to Wal*Mart to get a compass for Derek. He has needed a compass since school started and Todd still had not gotten him one. They live in town and not to far from a store to get one. I just don’t get it! It’s not like they cost anything. Okay, okay they do cost but I am sure that he could afford $1.02 including the tax for something that Derek needs for school.

The weather is changing. The shorts season has ended! Now I have to take the girls shopping for pants. “I have no pants to wear!” I am sure if they looked further into their dresser and closet they could find pants to wear. I don’t like pants with skinny legs ~ they want bell-bottoms! Ugh! If I made them wear the double-knit polyester pants that I had to wear when I was their age they would appreciate the jeans that they have regardless if they are bell-bottoms!

Yep, I got to wear double-knit polyester pants! They were not even my size! My mom would buy them to fit my younger sister because she was slightly bigger than I was. I would have to roll the waistband to get them to fit me around the waist and in length!

Stop laughing! It is not funny!! I have childhood scars!

I got my first pair of jeans when I was in 6th grade. But not until after two brothers and the sister out-grew them. Those I had to wait until she out-grew there was no way I was going to roll the waist of a pair of jeans so that they would fit me.

Since I am at that point in my life I have a funny shoe story too. Mom went shopping ~ I can only assume that it was at K-mart. (No such thing as Wal*Mart back then.) She bought us five youngest kids shoes ~ all identical! Blue canvas bumpers but they were not the typical blue canvas. They were like a faded canvas before sand washing or acid washing ~ they were just faded blue bumpers. Can you imagine the ridicule of having the same shoes as four other siblings? My younger sister and I decided that if we lost our shoes that we would get new shoes. So we went to the park wearing out faded blue bumpers and came home barefoot. We buried our shoes in the sand. We lost our shoes! I can still hear my mother “you better not have lost your shoes. You will go to school barefoot because I am not buying you new shoes! Now, go find your shoes!” We traipsed back to the park to get our shoes since we knew now that we would not be getting new shoes even though we buried our shoes in the sand lost our shoes. We came home with three shoes! That forth shoe was never to be found. For the life of me, to this day, I can not remember whose shoe was not found. I am thinking that if it had been my shoe I would have remembered it to be mine and having to wear old shoes so I am guessing that it was C’s shoe that was MIA.

On that note ~ I am off and running like a lunatic!

LOL…those shoes and your hand-me-down faded blue jeans would be in style now! RYN: You are right…I think they have to get the money out of those of us that they don’t kill to pay for the ones they do! Can ya tell that I’m a little bitter? ;D
