It’s not repression in which Mr. Hyde is gay
On March 19th Andy Fastow is coming to talk to my business school! I’m super excited because the Enron debacle is evidence for the strong influence of corporate culture on employee action. If you’ve ever seen Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, you know that they hint at the fact that, while there were some questionable characters involved, there is also the institution and all of the hypermasculine norms that had been set in place over the years to blame. This company had its own moral defining legends, for goodness sake! SO FASCINATING I CAN’T HANDLE IT. Fastow apparently reached out to the school and plans to talk about "how he got involved, over time, in acts that violated ethics and hurt many people — as well as damaging the public’s trust of business," according to the email I got.
The downside? They’re implementing a lottery system to get the tickets. I want one!! Please?
I actually worked in a group I didn’t mind last night. In my Marketing Research class we’ve been assigned one group to work on our semester long project and had to randomly create out own to work on smaller assignments in between…oh and there’s a third group we have for clicker questions in class. WAY too many groups for one class. While I do like the people in my project group, I actually had fun talking with the people in my smaller assignment group last night. That never happens. So refreshing!
I got an 89 on my classical socy theory exam and an 87 on my marketing research exam. Hmm…those are alright.
I took a bath yesterday for the first time in over a year. It was nice. =) I can tell I’ve been stressed because I never got my period in February. One bath probably isn’t going to fix things, but it’s a start. Getting Meghan to start paying me back would be even more helpful.
I’m getting my first credit card. It was such a complex process getting one…I had to open a new account in our credit union since my current one has my dad as the primary. Then, since everything was being done online, I had to send in copies of my ID and wait…and send in copies of signed contracts and wait… Overall, this took over a month. I should get my card in a couple days and then I can start building easy credit! =D
The night before last was kinda weird. A guy who was just passing by on the street stopped by our door and asked if we had a black dog. We pointed to Meghan’s dog, but the guy told us there was a bigger black dog just roaming out in front of our house. I freaked because I immediately knew it was our neighbor’s dog. Since we live in a duplex, we share a yard and when I put out our dogs at around 4pm that day I realized that black dog was still out there. When we ran outside to try and help the poor thing I knew that it had been left outside for probably around 8 hours (since it had been out at around noon as well). This is just an old cocker spaniel, so he’s not super equipped for outside living, but he apparently managed to jump the fence on our neighbor’s side and had been trying to get back into his house the whole night. No one was home, so we lured him into our house and tried to get hold of our neighbors. We left a note on their door and around 10pm someone finally came and got him. Poor thing! He didn’t even have a name tag. Without ever having met her, I now despise his owner.
