13 Miles in 2.5 hours
That about sums up my morning drive to work. It was expected. ODOT had warnings up, News Channels talked about it. We were in line to get snow today, and it was going to start in the wee hours of the morning and go until 10a.
7:30a I walk outside this morning to leave 1 hr early (as I assumed it take 1 hr to get to work). As I walk through the 4 inches of snow in our apartment complex and begin to brush off my car, I see others doing the same thing. My singular thought is, please let the roads be cleared.
I begin my decent onto 315S, which is the main major freeway to get to work. Just as expected we are traveling under 5mph. But the roads were not plowed. In fact about halfway through the drive the roads got to be so bad that cars were spun out facing each other, all traffic went from 3 lanes to 1. The other 2 were a lot for several cars that spun out. These cars were merging onto the freeway and during that merge, the snow was too much and they spun. Blocking the remainder of the merging lanes. Its sad. No one looked hurt just frustrated they are stuck and blocking traffic I am sure.
9:35am: I have made it to my exit. After 2 hours on the road, I decided to grab a coffee from Starbucks (its on the way to my job) and I am glad I did it has been a yummy treat. My boss just called and asked for my status. Told him I am alive and just at Kinnear & Olenetangy River Road (which is only 1 mile from my physical job) and that I simply need to find parking. He informed me that no one else from the CBO is here and he was heading to training and he will see me around noon.
9:50am: I am parked (finally). I walk inside , put my frozen meal for lunch away (how frozen is it still? who can say) , make my oatmeal and sit down to work.
10:00am: Officially begun work. No one is here, just me. The one girl that is USUALLY in around 930 should be arriving ANY minute now IF she decided to come in. Otherwise its just me. There was a group text, apparently, but I was not apart of this. It is possible that the girl that starts the earliest, 6a, called off and since she doesn’t have my number hence not being involved. Either way would have been nice ot know that I could have called off without penalty. Maybe my boss could have said “Why not consider working from home” instead I traveled 2 hours, I am here and no one else is. I really hope he remembers this when I like to see about flexing some hours for a travel situation in the future.
Now I am not saying I should get rewarded for coming to work as expected, but I do feel if everyone else had the ability to be offered an option to stay home and I was not on that message then I should have an option later one.
This brings me to now, no one has come into my office needing assistance, no fiscal work todo since the approvers are out. SO here I sit. I may write again soon.
I pray tonight the roads are clear and things do not take 2.5 hrs to go home!
Yeah, it was a mess today. I received a text before 7am saying our offices wouldn’t open until 10 and to work from home if able. I’m about 35 miles south and we had more ice than snow, so we weren’t going anywhere either!
Be careful going home!

I received a text from my company early this morning that we were opening at 10, but my boss had told us yesterday that we could work from home. Glad you made it in safely. My hubby drives for work so he’s been out in it since 5:30 this morning.
